1/4 of the projected opening-day starting QBs have suffered an ACL tear (if you consider Bridgewater the favorite over McCown). While a few have never recovered (RGIII), the advancements in modern technology, medicine and rehab make the once-dreaded ACL tear more or a speed bump.

Some players went on to have their best year's less than 12 months after the surgery.

I did some research and wrote up an article on the likelihood of re-injury and what kind of performance other QBs have had the year after ACL surgery.

There was a time when a torn ACL meant the end-of-the-line for a football player. There was also a time when CTE was downplayed, and the XFL was going to captivate football fans everywhere. No one is impervious to an antiquated idea or two, but the severity of ACL injuries simply isn’t what it used to be.

He essentially had two rehabs and will be over 20 months from taking an actual snap in an NFL regular season game.

I am less concerned about the knee stability and more concerned about his mental approach to returning. People may brush it off like he will be fine mentally . . . .but I do not believe anybody should feel comfortable that he will just take off right at the plateau he was on.

And Miami should not gamble on that either. Contingency plan needs to be on point.

Tannehill is a true professional liked or not as our QB. He put off surgery and it cost him but I think he comes back stronger.

Concerned, yes. OVERLY concerned, no.

Im concerned he’s going to be a sitting duck out there. If we thought he took too many sacks before....it may get even worse.

Watching Tannehill on the sidelines during the Fins last game against the Bills he was engaged with Gase and the QB's during the entire game. He has remained sharp and focused.

He has a great work ethic and he is a great teammate, but nothing can simulte a NFL regular season game. We really won’t know how much the time off and injury effects him until September.

Mobility was a big part of Tannehill's game IMO. However his is a tough competitor and they usually find a way to be effective.

I really hope there is some concern with the coaches and FO staff. I'd hate another year like last year. We need to have a plan at QB in case he isn't able to perform. Good article too.

Agreed we don't know.

Was his left or right knee? It took Carson Palmer a year to get the confidence to step into his throws under pressure. I’ve been more concerned about Raekwon’s recovery than Tannehill’s.

Step ups, cuts, rollouts, improvising . . . It would be a bit naive to think Ryan is the same mentally as the live bullets fly, at least at first.

We just have to hope he settles in and trusts his knee, think less as the games go by and hopefully he bounces back to form.

If anybody can its that dude.
