Or does it exhist to begin with? In light of the many coaching switches this offseason, it's interesting to me where loyalty resides these days. Along with being a Dolphins fan, in baseball I'm a Red Sox fan. Seeing Johnny Damon go to the Yankees brings up the loyalty question again.

I believe loyalty does exhist, but not towards particular teams. Rather, I believe players and coaches are loyal to their careers. Placement has become secondary. Position primary. Just look at how easily Linehan left Miami. And look how a former Bills coach is interviewing for the Dolphins OC postion. I'm not shedding a negative light on those decisions, but I do wish we had more of a sense of specific loyalty to a specific team. It's an interesting topic to me. What do you guys think?

I see your point, but Im a yankee fan ;) (Oh and I just heard Theo is back with the Red Sox). I think loyalty is out the window these days, because of free agency. But at the same time management is alwyas looking to better their teams, and age has become a major factor when players careers are winding down. At some point when they get older, I think players will go wherever to keep some sort of salary.

As a player, you might have a 5-year career on average. You need to make the money while you can. Especially in a brutal sport like football, where you're one play away from possibly dying. I don't blame players for getting what they can get, and I don't blame college juniors for declaring early.
As for coaches, Linehan had simply not been here long enough to criticize him for not being loyal enough. This was obviously a stepping stone to the next level for him. If it wasn't this year, it would be the next. Good for him.
Now watch Saban absolutely trounce him.

I dont know if its changed much... Shula left Baltimore for Miami because of money..

You can't expect Linehan to be loyal to Saban or Miami after only one year.
If he has the chance to grow as a coach, then I say good luck to him. What if Vince Lombardi or Don Shula had remained assistant coaches because they wanted to be loyal to their head coaches or cities or teams? Football would not be what it is today.

Sad the worlds Dan Marino's are gone.........Zach's about the only guy who I think wouldnt sell us out....but hey, they make alot, but you gotta understand........they spend alot too!;)

It existed before the salary cap but the cap now prevents it,thats why I hope the cap is takin out one of these yrs so we can keep are best players there whole career. Also there are few owners left who are great guys like Huizenga and the guy who owns the Steelers(Only two coaches in over 20 yrs)who try keeping there star players more than 2 or 3 yrs

loyalty is still exist in the NFL. example is when a HC keeps his coaches too long instead of firing him. i forgot his name but our DC during the shula era. Wanny keeping his OL coach. then again it could be for different reasons. i think loyalty is based on one's interpetation.

When referred to as a Dolphin 'lifer' by Rod Woodson, Zach Thomas replied "If Junior Seau left San Diego, who knows?"

I hear ya about Loyalty but let me ask you does the team show loyalty when you have a bad year or do the fans when you have a bad game nope everyone is quick to hang you.

NFL stands for Not For Long

Its a business that’s all there is too it.

Thanks for Damon by the way..... Go Yanks

I think there are a few players out there who are loyal to their team. Not too many anymore but they are still around.

Its the same in all sports now.
