I was thinking about how everyboy on this Forum always talks about the draft and now since the Fins are 3-6 people are starting to say oh lets forget this season and look fro a QB or whatever. Well I think they should change the draft order and i think it shouldnt be the the worst team picks first how about the first team that that didnt make the playoffs so that would be the 13th best record in the NFL would get the first pick and then go all the way down and then at the end you add the playoff teams with the Super Bwol winner picking last. Im just tired of some of those teams that work their *** of the whole year and are maybe a play or two from making the playoffs and the dont and they get screwed in two ways no playoffs and a late pick. So I think those teams that have a good year but cant find a way into the playoffs should get rewarded by the first round pick and then their would maybe be better competion between team then. Owners wouldnt be trying to lose games just to get that 1st pick. Even though they say they dont why would an Owner want to win an extra game that would maybe put them at the 3rd pick instead of the first. Like that old saying Hard Work Pays Off.

So just a thought let me know what you all think about this and think about those 2 years that the dolphins didnt make the playoffs with the 10-6 season and the 9-7 those would of been both top 3 picks and Im not saying this just because im a Dolphins Fan.

The way the draft is set up is to help create balance. I think it is set up perfectly.

I think the draft is set up right, if it was set up any differently I think the best option would be similar to what the NBA does, with a draft lottery.

yeah the lottery is better. it gives more teams a chance to get out of the hole they are in as opposed to continuously rewarding poorly managed team

Is this a joke?

Keep it as is. This isnt about economics, the way its set up is so you dont have teams like the Cowboys of the 90's, or consisent playoff teams becoming Pro Bowl teams.

So in 2003, when NE barely missed the playoffs, you'd have them select first?

Compensentory picks are not fair. Loaded team like the Eagles decide not to pay one of their guys and another team signs that guy then the loaded team gets a # 4. They don't make an attempt to keep a guy and they get a pick and the save on cap space.

The only thing I would consider is having a lottery for the top 3 draft teams. That way you don't have the temptation to throw a game. Everyone of the worst of the worst has a chance to get the best pick.

the only bad thing about the draft and having a high pick is that it punishes the bottom teams in that they shell out a ton of loot for an unproven player in the top 5

are you freaking kidding me? the draft is the ULTIMATE in fairness. if you suck, you deserve to get the best players, plain and simple

Great point. That's the ticket.

A lottery with say the bottom 5 teams vying for the top spot would be kind of cool to watch, but I like the system the way it is. I watched a terrible Wizards team in the NBA for years. We got screwed out of top 2-3 picks all the time while "lucky", ie teams the NBA wants to get the best player like San Antonio, Orlando, etc mysteriously got the best players. The worst team should have the top pick just so the farce that is the lottery in the NBA doesnt get started in other leagues.
Notice that my Wizards got the #1 overall once Jordan took over? Purely coincidence Im sure. LeBron goes to his hometown team, Cleveland, ie a team that needed a superstar to sell tickets or fold the franchise. Another quirky coincidence. The NFL would do the samething. If they had the chance they would select which teams get the superstars, I dont like that.

I did see a suggestion for changing the draft once, forget wahere though, that was pretty intriguing. The concept was that the worst 10 teams get to pick which slot they want to draft in with the worst team getting to choose which slot they want to draft and so on down the line through #10. Then the rest of the teams draft in the normal order.

This was interesting in that a team could target where they think they could draft their player of want and take the chance of getting him lower and thus not getting slammed by the cap in drafting a player higher than they otherwise could have.

I like this proposal - but again - I can't take credit for it.

the problem is 99.99999% of the time the teams would go in order 1-10, making it pretty useless
