Can it be that Ross and Ireland are playing the fool? That in fact, they are, behind closed doors, lusting (as they should/better) for the current season to go bust so as to establish that coveted first round selection for Luck. That they display disappointed before the cameras and then, in secret, are high-fiving each other after every defeat.

I mean so far the Dolphins are in easy reach of Luck so why not Suck For Luck, as the slogan says. Wouldn't that be the only option for true positive change for our squad? Other player/personnel (Saprano/Henne to name the obvious) are of course history regardless of whether we are in the one position in next years draft or not. Ross and Ireland might not be the brightest guys on the planet, but they can't be so stupid so as to not realize that Luck is worth sacrificing a season over. Come on.

So, again, is the FO (Ross/Ireland) playing the fool? What's your response?

May sound good in theory because that is what we the fans may want but Ireland may be out of a job next year and is showing he may not deserve another chance with anyone else and Ross certainly may look to next year but can he afford to lose more of the fan base as the team keeps losing?

they can lust all they want, but through a bunch of different occurences - some even beyond game results - at this point in time I put the realist's likelihood of them both drafting and keeping Luck at somewhere between 4 or 5 to 1

Yes. But the fans will jump back on the bandwagon if Luck is selected. That is certainly true.

But who can be certain.

How would they have known our defense would have dropped off this much??? Putting Jones in the starting lineup and having Burnett replace Crowder has hurt, but NO ONE predicted we'd have one of the worst defenses in the NFL even if you told them that those two would be worse than their predecessors.

The front office didn't go into this season thinking we'd Suck for Luck

If Gruden or Cower and maybe even Fisher become the head coach it improves the odds, assuming you can draft Luck, of him staying in town and not pulling the E.Manning shtick.

Cower and Luck...boy. Talk about a quick turn around for us. From your mouth to Ross'/Ireland's ears my friend. Let's hope it happens.

I truely think they thought this year was going to be good... with a hope of being very good.... thats over now.... it's all week to week and game to game at this point.... players will be looking out for #1... and that's not going to win many games....

True. But they should know that now. Don't you agree?

I'm sure they do know now that the season is over. But I still don't think they want to Suck for Luck. A lot of people in this organization have their jobs on the line right now and I don't think it's fair for them to just start making moves to draft one guy.

Personally I don't agree with the Suck for Luck strategy either. I just don't like the idea of putting all your eggs into one basket. Luck looks like a sure fire prospect but there have been many others like him that haven't lived up to expectations. I'd much rather see the team show some fire and try to gain some momentum at the end of the year than to tank to get the number 1 pick.

Exactly, I made that distinction earlier in the thread. Oliver Luck is too savvy, experienced and plugged in (just wiki him) to allow his son to be signed by a de facto rudderless ship chartered by an unfaithful and bungling owner. I believe he was already the WVU athletic director when our brainiacs overdrafted and then misused their star, Pat White...and likely was not in the least impressed.

You know he'll be on the phone with Archie if he hasn't been already, as well as probably Goodell. If we defy the odds and end up with the first pick we stand the best chance of actually signing him if Cowher and his designated GM are running the show.. probably the worst with Chuckie since he's considered by some players and insiders as a skumbag and/or clown.

Fisher would probably keep Oliver happy too, since he did a good job bringing along McNair - and there's the Oilers' connection too since OL was actually the QB in place who was bumped by Warren Moon. I'm sure he approved of Cowher's handling of Big Ben as well. If you think about it, Gruden never really had any success developing young talented phenoms.

I worried that Miami gets the first pick and still gets shafted, hell even if they get the 5th pick it is no guarantee after this season that they even have a shot at the 2nd best QB in the draft (however that shakes out).

I guess the good news is that with the new CBA trading back becomes easier if you miss your targets due to the rookie cap but Miami can not afford to miss anymore. It is time to pull the trigger on a QB and coach.
