Matt Burke, flanked by a very special guest, called rookie linebacker Raekwon McMillan over for a quick chat after practice Tuesday.
“Did you learn anything today?” Burke asked McMillan.
Sure did, the Dolphins’ second-round pick replied.
Burke would expect nothing less. McMillan has been a sponge throughout his four-month NFL career, and no one had to tell him that when one of the best linebackers in Dolphins history speaks, you listen.

I want to see the organization build the linebacking core like they did at wide receiver. It seemed like wide receiver was a perennial weakness year-in and year-out. Then in came Jarvis Landry. The team traded for Kenny Stills and then drafted DaVante Parker. That unit is now deep when you factor in other challengers (Carroo, Grant).

Raekwon McMillian might be the Landry of the linebacking group and a good start to rebuilding the entire unit. I see Lawrence Timmons as a stopgap and a lot will depend on health with Kiko Alonso.

More along the lines of the title of the thread than the article, but if we can get this linebacker group to be solid the time is now for the defense. We have absolute studs nearing the end of their primes, or slightly past in the case of wake. But Jones and Suh are premiere players in the league and it seems like we've finally got a respectable group of corners. If Phillips and McMillan can play decently I expect our defense to surprise people.

I doubt we see much of their first team offense. Hell... we know no one can cover Julio, stick Howard on him and see how he does

A desperate headline. Anyone who thinks that the first preseason game reveals the future isn't investing for me.

Preseason has shown to prove nothing and in fact can be misleading in terms of team and individual success.
