Two weeks ago I would say he was safe. I honestly think he will be let go. The team tanked the past two games. Those are two games we should have won hands down. I think it's a house cleaning coming up. If it does happen I hope it is fast.
Is there a legitimate chance we fire Philbin?

I think Philbin stays for a third season if he doesn't make the playoffs he is gone. Ross likes his IQ and honestly the jests played a perfect game to their possibilities, the loss of hartline was huge.
You understand it very well, brother. I'm hoping for the best (Ross cleans house and gets rid of Ireland and Philbin), but I can't help but think that they'll lay out a few sacrificial lambs like Sherman and Turner and pretend like the problem is solved.

Ireland and Philbin had 2 full years together of building (and spending), and what was the result? Look at these last two games... pathetic. What have they really accomplished in 2 years?
1. Miami had a Top 5 run defense in 2011. In 2012, Philbin and Coyle change schemes and turn it into a middle-of-the-pack run defense. In 2013, Ireland swaps LBs and now they're a Bottom 5 run defense.
2. Miami had a decent running game; they just needed an upgrade or two on the OL. 3rd and short? Automatic 1st down with Lousaka Polite. Enter Philbin and his fancy offensive scheme that uses short timing routes to replace the running game; and in doing so became one-dimensional. 3rd and inches? Not a chance on the first try, maybe in two tries. No running game results in fewer sustained drives. Ireland added numerous OL personnel, but not one was an actual upgrade.
3. Miami seemed to easily move the ball between the 20s, but the red zone was a problem. Poor playcalling and a lack of offensive playmakers (Marshall dropped more TDs than some WRs get all year) meant that they usually settled for FGs instead of TDs. In comes Philbin and Sherman with an offense that is described by Philbin to Ross as being dynamic, explosive, fast-paced and high-scoring. With Ireland neglecting the o-line, Philbin neutering the running game, and Sherman being worse than Henning, it was everything but dynamic, explosive, fast-paced or high-scoring. To their credit, they now had some playmakers and actually scored TDs in the red zone. However, due to the ineptness of their offense, they rarely made it to the red zone. Four specific games this season define the two years of the offense built by Ireland and Philbin: Dominating the Pats in the first half, only to be shut out in the second half and lose. Dominating the Panthers in the first half, only to be nearly shut out in the second half and lose. And, going into the last 2 games with the playoffs in their grasp and being completely dominated by the Bills, and then nearly being shut out by the Jets and losing any chance at the post-season.
IMO, there is no possible way anyone could think that Ireland and Philbin are leading this team in the right direction.
