I want so much to have something to be excited about, but a sobering thought today...

Taking the entire organization into account, where can we say we excel....not "above average", and not in potential, but among the best in the league in real life performance. I can only think of one place.

Punter.

keepins staff members too long, overpaying for lesser talent

I guess this thread has nowhere to go but snarkville, but that wasn't my intent...

We have bookend defensive ends who combined for 20 sacks last season and that doesn't include the potential of Dion Jordan.

We almost had two 1,000 WRs and we finally have a true quarterback to build around. The fact that we finally have a franchise quarterback is a big reason to be excited every year no matter what other drama is going on. Teams like the Jaguars, Bills, Jets, Browns, Raiders, etc. currently don't have a franchise quarterback and currently have less hope then us.

The closest thing would be our de's and grimes. Other than that, nothing in the excel mode. Some potential like tanne busting out but until he can hit wallace, it stay mediocre

Am not sure I buy any of that malarkey about the offense, our receivers only had so many yards because the running game was abysmal...there's no way you can convince me we're anywhere near the top of the league in any offensive category.

As for Tannehill, stats show that QB's rarely get much better after two years of starting, and I need to see more out of him before I put us in the category of being set at QB...

We also have Dolphin fans everywhere. At the Pro Bowl we always have about the 5th most jerseys. We are a global brand, granted it's been a tough 10+ years and had several major embarrassments, but in time it'll be forgotten, especially when we start to win again.

We have one of the fastest accomplished receivers in the game, our front seven defensively is top 10 in the league with potential to improve this off season, and for the first time in a long time we have an offense that can move the ball when the Oline isn't giving away the game.

Pass defense, which would be improved even more with the addition of a ballhawking safety.

I don't think it's fair to say that we have a franchise QB. Very few non Dolphins would agree with that statement. Hell most Dolphins fans don't agree. Maybe some day soon ours hopes will become truth.

I agree with the franchise point. I think the sample size is too small to make a determination. Potential? I think so. The trainers and coaching staff up to now have not proven to be anything more than average. The team is not cohesive, the game planning has been inadequate and the development of the younger players has seemingly been put on the back burner. We could use a "self-starter" type that has play maker written all over him but I have yet to see that person. To the posters point I cannot see an area on the team that is consistently among the top in the league but I lay the blame on the coaches...we have some very good players but we are out coached weekly.

It also has the potential to completely fall apart! Both Starks and Soliai are FA's, and they are probably going to keep the wrong one.

I would say scoring D, and the pass rush is very close. We do need to be more consistent. I can't put the front 7 up there yet. On O, our combined receivers, including TE, are close as well.

we're waiting for Lazor and an Oline.
