As of right now this team MUST come way from the draft with a starting LBer and a starting TE (and a kicker). There is no other way around it (barring a trade). This and this alone should tell everyone what Miami's plan is (should be). 11 could be the perfect spot to grab Smith or Edmunds, while 11 is much much to high to take a TE, said TE could be taken in the second, more likely the third.

In this scenario, Miami could come away 1 of the top 2 LBers and 1 of the top 2 TEs. Both which would be day 1 starters.

Is there any other way to go for Miami. Regardless what the brass may be saying. All the dots point to LBer and TE in the top 3 rounds in that order.

I think that's what our preference would be.

However, if Roquan Smith and Tremaine Edmunds are both gone at 11, I think we go free safety (Minkah Fitzpatrick or Derwin James).

Here’s a scary thought all 4 qbs gone as well as Fitzpatrick, James Smith Edmunds Chubbs and Barkley. Now do we take Nelson or go in a different way

I'd be shock if a corner doesn't go top 10 pushing one of those guys to us but like I said on another thread, if those are the top 10 then Davenport has to be in play. Keep on mind that Wake and Hayes and Branch are all most likely gone after this year and Davenport is a LDE

This is my worry. I think one quarterback may be available, not sure which one but I really don't think all four will go top 10. I think the other players you mentioned are just too good not to be scooped up early and often. I'm not sure they'll go with Nelson at that point

Someone will fall... someone ALWAYS does...and it will either be someone we love in which we will take them.

Or ..

Someone that we can get use as leverage to trade and get into a more comfortable spot for our next highest guy.

In that scenario I do take Nelson. He's probably the 3rd or 4th best player in the entire draft.

I wouldn't like it, and I don't think he lasts to 11, but I wouldn't pass on him.

In this scenario, it's either Nelson or Ward. And Nelson's the better prospect. I'd run that card up. You won't have to worry about the guard position for 10 years. Immediate starter at right, move back over to left aside Tunsil once Sitton is jettisoned.

It seems obvious that LB is the top choice for a lot of people but I don't know if this is how management is viewing this....

If we take Smith, that means they are already planning on moving Kiko back to MLB and kicking McMillan out to SLB with no real plan for Anthony. I don't think they would give up a 5th round pick to rent this guy for half a season just to plan for him to be a backup. He was used more and more in the nickel last year as the season went on and he was brand new to the system.

Not many of us are big on Kiko but management is so they are not looking at this like a lot of people.

Not saying I don't agree about moving Kiko but not sure it's happening.

I could see them thinking LB is already set as well.

WLB: Kiko with McDonald possibly getting reps there

MLB: McMillan / Hull

SLB: Anthony / Allen

It's a scary thought process - especially after cutting Suh (expect Kiko to look even worse, if that's possible) - but would not at all surprise me.

I think that expecting a draft pick to be a day one starter is a pipe dream of the desperate.

A few draftees may become first day starters. Some of the best waited a few years before they started (ref: Brady and Rodgers). We use a draft to pick what we expect will become the core of our team and even then, there is a better than even chance most of these guys will not make it 4 years, much less be starters. This is why free agents command the money they get. They are proven NFL functionaries.

I look forward to 2 things as a result of the 2018 draft:

1) I think it makes sense to trade down a little for another 2nd if the FO can get the same player that they want at pick 11. Then the first three picks to be BPA's from the Dolphins board. We have plenty of room for the best available players regardless of position.

All the rest of the picks should be aimed at areas of need. My specific interests are for a mid draft QB such as Mike White, more RB's (a strength of this draft), more defensive players (another strength of this draft), a mid range TE ( I feel this draft is weak here, but we may surprise ourselves), followed by positions for backups in position of need. Notice that I show more wants than we have draft picks. This means we need to have some success with our UDFA's.

2) It is time to see players from our previous drafts, particularly the last two, start to take over the positions they were brought in to play.

Will Asiata pan out? How many will show up in our offensive backfield? Will the offensive line be able to use these guys effectively? Will our defensive be using many of these players effectively? Will our younger players be able to avoid a lot of injuries?

We live in interesting times!

All I know is this team is LONG overdue for a bona fide star with the first round pick. One that makes an immediate impact. We haven't seen one since maybe 1992 unless you want to count a few O-linemen (Long & Pouncey). They need to FINALLY find that difference maker.
