FTR, I have no problem with O'Neil being fired. I don't think anyone who read the report is surprised.

Is there any truth to the story that he was pulled out of a meeting with other trainers to be fired?

Even if that isn't true, what is accomplished by flying O'Neil to the combine with the team?

I understand that Indy is probably the best place to be right now for a respected out of work football guy. Why not fire him earlier? Or let him know privately beforehand that he is being let go. Allow him to find a new job without the embarrassment of being fired 2000 miles from home.

What the hell happened in the last 24 hours to justify the way he was firing him immediately?

I have lived and died with this team for 21 seasons now. Something is rotten, and I think it starts at the top.

Typically getting fired, is not supposed to be a positive experience..

Had no choice when ross made the decision I guess it had to be done asap especially if he was representing the team at the time

Not nice but apparently it came due to league office pressure so that move could have saved a draft pick

From what Philbin said in his presser, once they made the decision, they did it immediately.

I have also heard that the O'Neil firing sent a show wave through the organization and likely had the desired impact.

He shouldn't complain, they flew him to a place where he can talk to every other team about his next job

They should have had Vince McMahon do it. just like this.

Crazy stuff

For a person now looking for a job, Indianapolis is where you would want to be this week. Even if it was by accident, it probably worked out the best for O'Neill.

Should Ross have fired him after treating him to Joe's Stone Crab?

There is a whole lot if ground between pulling a guy out of a meeting with his peers to fire him in a strange city, and taking him out to a nice dinner to do the deed.

It makes this whole organization look completely classless. Not the way to attract top tier talent, whether on the field or in the front office.

It doesn't sound like it was Ross' decision. It sounds like the decision came from the NFL. **** flows downstream, so it took a while to work its way from the NFL offices, to Ross, and then to Philbin and Aponte. I don't think it was planned that they do it at the combine.

The only logical explanation here is that Miami didn't originally consider firing him, or else they would have prevented him from attending the combine like they did Jim Turner. After the NFL put pressure on Miami, then Miami caved and fired him, and at that point O'Neil was already engaged in combine activities. That's my take on it. Of course, Miami will take all the heat for it, but the order had to have come from the NFL imo.
