I'm not a huge fan of him.....I think he always was very over rated, he's injury prone, makes far too much money. But at least he's a nice guy.

Jr is one of my favorite of all time, i saw a thing on espn where a fireman lost his life on 9/11 and he was a huge Jr fan, when jr heard the story he brought the firemans wife and kids to a game and brought them to the all star game and just hanged out with the family. He still keeps in touch with the family, he really is a class act

I think his injuries did him in, maybe a little overrated but he's like Grant Hill, as a person you'd be hard pressed to find a nicer guy out there.

Griffey = the man. Would have been really good If he could have stayed healthy, but he couldn't. None the less he is still good. Good player. GREAT person.

Suavephin, Griffey's career isn't over yet. He's having a monster year and if he can stay healthy I could see him passing Willie at 660. This year he has 35 homeruns and 92 RBI's. At this rate he's projected at 41 homeruns and 109 RBI's (with a .301 BA). Right now he's day to day with that sprained foot but according to the Reds website he's sitting out only tonight. He could play but they said the Jerry Narron had planned on resting him sometime this week so as a pre-cautionary measure their sitting him tonight. I think Griffey finally getting through a season healthy is only going to build his confidence and I fully expect him to hit 50 homeruns and drive in 130 runs next year. That's just my opinion. A healthy Griffey is the best hitter in the game and I now know that the only reason he didn't peform the last couple of years was because of his health and not because the guys has faded!

I like Griffey but I'd say Pujols is the best hitter in baseball right now.

Nothing would make me happier then to see Griffey have the rest of his playing days healthy, but after so many injuries year after year i would be shocked to see that, but he would be a player baseball would be proud of to pass Willie so im rooting for the guy, great player and class act on and off the field

Anybody who doesn't like Ken Griffey, Jr. probably doesn't like baseball. For so many years he was the best pure Power-Average hitter in the game. He has been injury prone since coming the the Reds, but he's back to producing now. If the Reds had any kind of pitching he will be an MVP candidate next year.

Griffey has been hurt a lot, but a lot of the injuries were from diving or slamming into walls. The guy plays hard, fearless. He's a hall of famer, one of the best players of this generation and a NON steriod player also.

Good post... I have a hard time calling Griffey overrated because in the mid to late 90's he was bar-none the best player in baseball. Great combination of speed, power, defense, contact, and a decent eye at the plate. Without injuries this guy would be well over 600 HR's now with the Babe and Aaron in sight.

overrated? If this guy didn't have injuries Bonds would be a pimple on the *** of baseball as Griffy would be chasing all of the records!

In fact he is still chasing records and he has probably missed 3 full seasons due to injuries.

That's what is truly scary about Griffey. He started so young that even when missing around 3 seasons he still is over 500 homeruns and 10 time all-star (or more, not sure). A healthy Griffey can easily hit 50 and drive in 130 next year IMO. I'm pulling for this guy big time!
