I know this question sounds absolutely absurd, but given how these events are playing out, I was just wondering if a player could have a case against fans if they wrote some hateful, gross things about them on public forums such as twitter or Facebook.

What does the law say about that? I am sure there are a bunch of numbskulls writing all sorts if vile crap about Martin right now on Twitter and social networks. Could they go after them too if they so chose? I know they probably wouldn't because there is no money in it, but I'm just wondering for my own curiosity.

In addition, what about at stadiums? What if a fan yelled a racial slur or a threat at a player from the stands. Could they be accused of workplace harassment since they are technically doing that at the player's "place of work"?

This case has opened up my eyes to how lawyers think... Just wondering how far down the rabbit hole this goes.

Ugh, tapatalk changed "sued" to "used" :/

When Martin is all done, there won't be protection for anybody. This is is the start of the transition from the NFL to the Powder Puff League.

As an attorney I can say in Civil Court the key is showing that there was harm/damages whether physical, emotional, or financial and you can sue. We are a very litigious society that has gotten very soft and are quick to hide behind lawsuits. It makes me sick, which is why I don't take cases I don't believe in.

Taking dodgeball and competition out of the schools was a sign that America is condoning being a wuss and 2nd best. Getting hit in the face w/a dodgeball builds character and I don't care if anyone says otherwise.

I wouldn't worry to much. Most lawyers main goal is money and unless you have deep pockets what would they get from you? The payoff wouldn't be worth their efforts.
