Is there Significant Dysfunction Within the Team?

Does the Martin/Incognito situation indicate a team culture problem?

Great point. Appreciate your input here.

Hopefully Philbin is aware going forward of the need to "weed out" players whose behavior runs counter to the culture he's trying to implement while he's still trying to "establish the lawn."

When the lawn isn't yet established, you can't let powerful weeds go unattended, or they soak up the water and nutrients needed to get the grass to grow. Once the lawn is established, the grass crowds them out.

This is how New England has gotten players like Randy Moss and Chad Johnson to come in and out of there without much if any problem. The culture there is so strong that "weeds" like them are controlled.

BB keeps everything in house. The media has no problem with that. But they have a problem when Philbin does it.

I'd say the media has expressed their problem with that.

The point is that Moss and Johnson came in and out of there without much issue if any, which I attribute to the strength of the culture that had already been in place for a substantial period of time.

And the larger point is that, more so than even the coaching staff and the team administration, the culture created and maintained by the players manages the players, even the tough-to-manage ones.

One could argue that if indeed Jonathan Martin is a tough-to-manage player (of course in a much different sense than Moss or Johnson), a culture centering on the professionalism Philbin is trying to establish would've managed him very well.

Yes. There are people above Philbin who should have tackled the week's issues and let the coach prepare for the game and deal with the locker room, but they forced Philbin to deal with the media and all, yet he has a game to prepare for. The owner and the GM are gutless and pathetic.

For all we know Philbin could've asked to address the issue.

Jonathan Martin is a very tough guy to manage. Because he doesnt communicate very well and he quit.

I hear what your saying about culture within New England and I really appreciate your thread, but the guy wins with Tom Brady. Whenever something happens to them the media says no biggie, no culture problem here, they are winning. Dolphins can change the culture overall by simply winning.

and cincy was a huge huge huge win. If Philbin pulls off another Buffalo with Tampa, Carolina, and SD when they have control of the game, then the culture changes again to the perception of the public.

I'd say that to win like New England has, or anywhere close, they're going to have to establish a winning culture first.

I appreciated the option to vote maybe. Not many polls include maybe. Maybe without the capitalization in the header I say no but it looked like you were hinting toward maybe.

If we don't win at least 6.5 games...moider da dysfunctional bums.
