Ok so I have been thinking alot lately, and for once i didnt hurt myself in the process ;).

But i have been racking my brain for ways we can get Ginn safe touches and use him ala Reggie Bush or Percy Harvin. So here is what i cam up with.

  1. First of all like i think many of you suggested run reverses with him if you get the LB's and DE's up field and he can turn the corner its likely to be a big play maybe even a house call.
  2. Second it seems pretty obvious, move him to the slot to get favorable match-ups him on a LB or S is a big time advantage for us and when we dont have many miss-matches we need to start looking for some with formations ala the WC
  3. Third and this may be the crazy part but in the shotgun which i think we should go to more...no like what the pats do but a few more times a drive you can do alot from zone read runs to screens. And thats where i got the idea, in the shotgun have Henne flanked but RorR in one side and Ginn on the other.....yes he is not an effective blocker against a LB but thats not his purpose. Have him take two steps or whatever up the go out into the flat either his is alone with nobody within 8 yards of him which is good cause he can get 10+ out of that EASY or EVEN BETTER her draws a LB or S over with him LEAVING A VOID a void we can exploit.
  4. And of course put him back out there more as a decoy WR and if he gets open Henne will be the judge if he trust him or not. We need to try to throw down field more than once.....i know we called plays for it but other than the Hartline one at the beginning nobody got open and Ginn with his speed if for nothing else scares D's to cover overtop and respect a deep throw and we need that otherwise the Pats will put 9 in the box and say ok throw it

Like most of you understand Ginn needs touches....i can here you now well he is a WR he gets touches. IMO catches are a very unique form of touches many WR catches have a chance to get like 4 or 5 extra yards maybe 1 out of 6/7 give you a really good chance for YAC. Ginn much like Harvin and Bush is a creator and when given space its basically over. Give him just alittle more space is all i am getting at and i think he can make dynamic plays. And yes we can line him up at WR for deep routes too im just suggesting more ways to get him touches considering he is 1 of our maybe 3 home run guys.

I am not suggesting we go away from out game plan of run first but putting Ginn in some favorable formations in some favorable spots he will make big plays. And i do not think we need to target him more than 8-10 times but if we get him 8-10 safe touches reverses, WR screen, passes with him coming out of the backfield in the flat i think he can have a pretty gaudy average per touch. and Yes put him in there as a WR as well on i donno 12-15 more plays and if he gets open he get a chance to catch it.

So am i crazy or what? :lol2:

We need to hit him more on slants more, we must him him in stride and hope we can get him in between the CB and the safety where he has a chance to outrun them,

Definately need to him on quick slants when the D is blitzing. Best chance to catch the CB or Safety 1ON1 COVERAGE.

I think his confidence will be up right now. This is the week to go over the top 2 or 3 times. That first pass to Hartline would of been closer to Ginn, if he was running the route. Let Ginn run deep on the old pats corner, Springs or Bodden.

I actually also think he would pan out WAY better in the slot. Getting him the ball in those shot slants or stop routes in the middle when they defense is stacking the line would be ideal for him. Moving him around would be the best thing so they're not able to read anything.

Some good ideas there.... except the 'Ginn to the slot' idea. We're talking about a guy who doesn't want to get hit by DBs and instead you want to have him run across the middle of the field??? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Here is the problem with the slot. Most teams unlike the Dolphins lock their best CB up on that teams best receiver. Since none of our receivers scare any defenses around the league you can almost bet that Ginn will see the other teams best cb no matter where we line him up.

I like him taking ricky's place a time or two in the WC even if ronnie don't hand it too him it will definately demand attencion.

I agree with the guy who said we need to hit him with quick slants more on blitzes.. Just like the Hartline catch on the slant against the Saints when he ran it all the way down the field.

I see Desean Jackson doing it, so surely Ginn can catch those quick slants and take it to the house.. They need to find a way to get the ball to Ginn in some space.. In space he is electric.

I see other teams twisting their receivers and TE's that are almost like pick plays to get wide receivers open.. The Saints and Colts do it all the time and they always get away with it because they do it the smart way by just getting in the way without hitting the D-back.. We need to do that A LOT more to get Ginn open with some space.

I guarantee if Ginn was on the Colts or Saints with all those innovative routes that look like pick plays to get guys open in space, that Ginn would flourish in those systems.. so why can't we run the same thing once in a while ??

)))) HELLO DAN HENNING !! GET WITH THE THE TIMES YOU OLD GEEZER ! (((((

Our routes are basic 50 year old crap..

I agree they do need to find some creative ways to get Ginn some more touches. He has shown the ability to take reverses to the house........and you are right that if he gets the ball in a little space good things can happen.

Our passing game can be so much better if we ran those innovative routes that the Patriots used in 2007, the Broncos use now with McDaniels, and what the Colts and Saints do every game.

Have those almost pick plays getting Ginn open in space, with our talented backs coming out of the backfield between the seams of those picks like the Colts always do with Addai and Brown lined up in the backfield and motioning to the slot and vice versa (both of our tailbacks are good pass catchers who can run well after the catch, we finally saw Ricky get a screen pass in the 2nd quarter and it was our longest gain of the day at 28 yards on that play).

We are not using our players wisely on offense or on defense ( I have written many posts about the defense this year). We can be so much better than we are with some adjustments.

I actually also think he would pan out WAY better in the slot. Getting him the ball in those shot slants or stop routes in the middle when they defense is stacking the line would be ideal for him. Moving him around would be the best thing so they're not able to read anything.
I agree with you the only thing is it seems to me he is scared to take a big hit. I think he thinks about that a lot.

Why Ginn is not used in the wildcat has been a mystery to me since day 1. He lined up as a QB several times at OSU. They called the formation the "Shot-Ginn". He wreaked havoc back there.

I would like to see Ginn in motion, and have the play run 3 or 4 steps after he passes the tackle, so he just runs past the DB and doesn't get hit on the line... He is a track star so if he is already in motion, it won't take that long to reach full speed...
