One knock on the Dolphins that is and has been for years is that they have never had a complete revamping from the ground up. Year after year it seemed like little changes were made only to get us to the first round of the playoffs and lose. JJ prolly did the most rebuilding but couldn't do as much as he wanted to because he would've been run out of town for trading Marino.

With this team, it seems like some areas were totally rebuilt with youth and inexperience (secondary). And other areas changed with older veterans (D-line). Would anyone else like to have seen us rebuild everything and try to win in the future instead of winning 9 games and not making the playoffs in Sabans first year?

I was rooting for Jay Cutler. I was praying for us to lose towards the end of last season. I couldnt believe it when we ended the season with six meaningless wins. Can you picture this team with Jay Cutler next year? Who knows maybe Culpepper or Harrington works out

I've been rooting for this team too long to care about regular season wins. The only thing I care about is the Super Bowl trophy. Cutler wouldve guaranteed that we would have a shot at that trophy for the next ten years.

You're only a year older than myself so perhaps you weren't paying much attention back in the day but JJ did run Marino out of town, literally. He had Marino sprinting 7 yards to give handoffs. JJ wanted to build a JJ team see(too big of an ego), not a Marino team. Any inteligent coach would have tryed to build around a hall of famer which I believe is one of the reasons Shula is the most winningest coach in football history. As much as JJ did in drafts and what not, tell me you wouldn't trade it all for a SB victory.

What a ridiculous statement, did you even think about it before you typed?

You need a legitimate (not necessarily great but at least good) QB to win the SuperBowl (Trent Dilfer being the only exception to that rule). Those type of QBs are tough to come by. We've been looking for one ever since Marino. Cutler, IMO, wouldve guaranteed that that position was sewn up for the next ten years. Saban wanted Cutler if you believe the press. As to caring whether we're 9-7 and out of the playoffs or 5-11 and out of the playoffs, I would prefer 5-11 since it gives us an advantage in the draft. The only time regular season wins mean something is while you have a chance at the playoffs. Once you're eliminated it becomes meaningless

Any intelligent coach doesn't hitch his wagon to a QB on the decline. Therein laid the problem- the team needed to get rebuilt, especially the defense, but by the time they were playoff ready, Marino was almost at the end of his line.

JJ could have let Marino be Marino. But by the time he had the surrounding cast, Dan was little more than a wooden indian.

I said the same thing during the season last year and got bashed as not being a "true fan". Of course any "true fan" with half a brain would rather have a high pick in the draft then a few wins that mean nothing. But who am to THINK a little before drinking the cool aid. Rock on Da Sphinky

I did want Cutler in the draft as well but i knew as soon as we traded for Dante all of those hopes went out of the window. IMO drafting a QB would have been the best choice but we were in no position to grab one of the big three QBs. I was surprised that everyone passed on Cutler and Leinart because QBs are so hard to come by.

But JJ did not run Marino out of town. He stuck with him until he reitired. And if you read my thread carefully I state that JJ dismantled the team more so than any other time in our team's history. But management would not let him take that extra step. And to answer your question I dont know if I could've seen the Dolphins win a SB without Marino...not while he was still playing. Sacrelige!

Me too. I remember before the draft I thought there was no chance we would get him but as the draft went on I started thinking we had a chance and then Denver made that trade:fire:

Actually, I think this team is going in 4 different directions.

Direction 1: It's getting younger in some areas.
Direction 2: It's getting older in some areas.
Direction 3: It's staying the same age in other areas.
Direction 4: It's entering the twilight zone in many areas.

LOL.

GO PHINS~!

Nice, my original point of this thread was to say that maybe it would have been more plausible to dismantle the entire team (cept for chambers, taylor, and thomas) than add veterans past their prime. Ive said it once Ill say it again, that 6 game winning streak was the worst possible thing that couldve happened to this team. All it did was cause unrealistic expectations for this team and put extreme pressure on the entire organization.

I think you understood my point. My response was a direct reflection on the thread title and topic. The six game winning streak was the worst possible thing that couldve happened to this team? That's ridiculous. Yeah sure, we should have lost them all and got the first draft pick. :shakeno: Brilliant.
