I remember when we had R. McMichael we just seemed way more in control on offense. R. McMichael was a good blocker and he did tremendous in play action.

I think if we pick up (E. Johnson, L. Smith, B. Troupe, F. Davis, J. Carlson, B. Cottam.) it won't only help in the our O-Line it will help our running game because of the fear of the play action.

Your Thoughts?

1. Randy McMicheal is not that great of a blocker as he wiffed on a ton of blocks the last couple of years he was here. I do think though that he might be a stud next year with the St. Louis Rams if they can protect Bulger.

2. I think we do need a good TE to help out in the passing game as David Martin is not a consistent starter as a tight end in the NFL. Why do you think the Packers released him? He's more of a redzone target than anything.

3. A good tight end can make mistaches for defenses because of the size and speed combination that they posses. Fred Davis could be a good candidate as we could probably get him in the 2nd round. Same with Martin Rucker of Missouri.

yeah a TE would help Beck Great, getting someone like Fred Davis and have him grow in the system with Beck would be very good.

I never saw you post here before but now I see you all the time... welcome to the board, I guess. lol

As for the TE situation, I concur with your assessment of our current situation. Our TE play has gone out of the window with McMichael, even before he left, but to say the least we are lacking in that department.

I would love to pick up Ben Troupe, he's big and fast and can catch well, I'm just not sure on his blocking abilties. As for L.J. Smith, he is way too injury prone, even though I feel he could be a stud in this league.

I wouldn't mind drafting Fred Davis in the third or fourth, but I do not know if he'll be available by then.

McMichael was well below average as a blocker. He was a solid receiving threat, but honestly, he will never play up to his potential. Bringing in David Martin to replace him was a bad move, but I am glad they got Randy off the roster. He hurt the team more than he helped it, really.

I want to keep Peelle around. He isn't great as a receiver, but he is decent, and he is a pretty good blocker. I do think they need a better option as a starter, but I wouldn't mind Peelle as a backup and a guy to play Anthony Fasano to whoever our Witten may turn out to be in 2 tight end sets.

Fred Davis is the guy that most people around here want, and while he looks like a top shelf talent, I would rather take someone a bit later, like Rucker or Martellus Bennett.

Yeah i've been posting alot lately. Thanks for the welcome, I think L.J. Smith, if he stays healthy, only if, he could be huge! Out of all the available TE if I had a choice I would take B. Troupe. He is a quiet great player.

McMichael was not good at all, he dropped balls, and failed to block the pass rush.

Miami needs a Jeremy Shockney, Jay Novachek, or Bubba Franks type TE that can block, and make clutch catches over the middle.

A good tight end is a release valve. Let's you murder them underneath with little 10 yard passes. We have more pressing needs I think but a good receiving tight end can make the difference between a good offense and a great one. Right now we can't even claim to be good.

Agreed.

The Dolphins have the worst tight end situation in the league and it is inexcusable that it came to this.

The Dolphins need a minimum of two tight ends and maybe three.

Fred Davis is too small and not a willing blocker. I could see Miami drafting a Rucker or Carlson with the 64th pick or Cottam at the top of round 4. I also see Miami picking up another tight end through free agency and/or on day one AGAIN in 2009.

The new brass will want two really good tight ends. We have none.

A tight end is pretty underrated simply because they dont produce the same kind of receiving numbers as a WR, which I dont feel like is a particularly appropriate way to look at it. Tight Ends can have huge non-statistical contributions.

As a receiver, they create matchup problems that other positions do not. Vs. Man coverage, it's difficult to find linebackers fast enough, or safeties tall and physical enough to cover one. Vs zone coverage, their basic routes all tend to exploit the transitions and seams between the zones, and can force teams out of deep zone coverage for the WRs.

As blockers, they can really contribute in the blocking scheme. Positioning wise, they are heads up on speed rushers and can be used to slow a guy off the corner and tremendously help out an otherwise overmatched TE. They're also often at the point of attack in off-tackle runs.

Bill Parcells puts a big emphasis on TEs. He had Mark Bavaro at the Giants, Ben Coates at the Patriots, spent a 1st rounder on Anthony Becht with the Jets, had Jason Witten with the Cowboys, and spent a 2nd rounder on Anthony Fasano just so he could base his offense around the 2-TE sets. It's essentially a extention of his "Planet Theory".

It's worth noting that Parcells and his people tend not to go for smaller, oversized WR type TEs, but rather often 260-270 pound guys who can contribute to blockers.

It's also worth noting that we just signed Dan Henning as an offensive coordinator, the guy who was Joe Gibbs OC when the Washington Redskins basically invented the 2-TE attack and the H-Back position.

We need a TE, like we need everything else. But if we do get one through the draft or FA, I sure as hell hope he can block, as well as catch. Most guy's these days think it is ok for Te to play like a WR, and not block at all. If you have 5 juggernaut linemen, you may get away with it. We aint, so lets get real. Can Davis or Rucker block?

TE is apart of Ever Offense except ours and we need a TE bad a TE is Kind of a Saftey Blanket for the QB
