The Patriots released him this week, and he was previously a starter for the Jets the past few years. He is relatively young and big at 250 pounds, but is he a good linebacker? The reports I have read in magazines say he improved each year with the Jets. Does anybody recall watching him play for the Jets (or the Patriots this preseason) and could he help the Dolphins very average linebacker group?

He seemed to always play well against us. He certainly fits as a 3-4 LB who could play inside or strong side. My guess is whomever signs him will wait til after the first game, since he is a vested veteran.
I wouldn't complain at all if we did sign him for depth at ILB.

I was surprised when the Pats cut him, but I feel pretty good about Crowder, Ayodele and Torbor inside.

The reason he just got cut was because he really sruggled trying to make the transition from 3-4 OLB to ILB.

he was very good when they ran the 3-4... he has a lot of upside as a signee, but I would guess that even though he was cut, he is going to command more cash than you would expect from a regular street guy of his stature.

While Hobson is big at 250, he is relatively too short at 6'0" for what the Trifecta looks for in a LB. Hobson did have that one pretty good year in 2006 at ILB where he finished with 100 tackles and six sacks but other than that he has been average himself.
