I know there are a good amount of people who would like to select Wright in the sup. draft. What I want to know is why. I understand that we have a huge need at DT, but is he the right kinda DT that we need? I feel that in the future, we are gunna we using very large run stoppin DTs most likely more in a 3-4 scheme. I just dont see Wright fillin that role. I feel that if we were to select him, it would kinda be a little of a panic. By that I mean... we shouldnt be in a hurry to fill every hole on our team in one year. We are rebuilding and to try and scramble to grab anyone who plays the position that we need I feel would not be smart long term. I feel that the players that we get should be judged on how well they fit in the scheme, not just what position they play... Thoughts?

Sounds like Wright is a little out of shape and not the strongest guy around....I want a BEAST at DT....and Wright just isnt that...and not worth a 3rd rounder.

Not that I believe Miami should draft Wright, but how many BEASTS at DT come out of the 3rd round?

He is worth whatever we think he is worth. If Miami throws a 6th rounder out there and Phila throws a 2nd then so be it the only thing I care about this is that we dont OVERPAY for him.

But even if we dont overpay for him... do you still think he would fit in our new system?

To tell you honestly I dont even know what our new "system" is.. Is he a capable "classic" NT probably not...can he play the "under" tackle role or DE in a 3/4 I would day those best suit his traits he doesnt seem to fill the role that we seem to be looking for a run-plugger but again Im not sure thats what Saban has in mind for him. Reading Bretts comments I dont see him ending up here regardless.

So is everyone no longer hot on this guy? it seems like just a week ago people were willin to spend a 2nd on him?

That was until he looked out of shape at his workout...He needed to impress and he didnt. If he showed up in great shape but had a sub-standard bench it would be ok (to me) but he didnt show up in shape in fact it looks like the opposite.

I feel like I've seen this thread before........ kinda Deja Vu........ ish..........

Quoted for agreement. Your beasts are usually 1st round picks.

I dont recall many knowledgeable guys wanting to throw down a 2nd. Lets face it, most of us are just normal fans and dont have any inside sources... the general opinion of the fan base usually sways with the reporting.

However I feel he is still going to get drafted in the 3rd... even if he had a poor benchpress.

The only reason I would still take him is this way.

I personally would use a 4th to grab him. Very slim chance but I wouldn't be too upset if we did spend a 3rd.

Even before this workout people and analysts all stated he would be a project anyway.

In cases like this we basically get him an extra season to develop. By taking him now we basically give him a free season to develop and learn before we technically give up any compensation.

Another year in college won't help him as much as a full year in NFL europe or the NFL as a situational guy.

Prior to this workout analysts were saying he would atleast be a 2nd rounder next year and possibly sneak into the 1st.

I don't care if he looked out of shape or had a hard time benching. That's what we have conditioning coaches for. I care about his skills, and appearantly they were saying the skills were there it was his shape that wasn't.

So I would still get him let him develop a year then by next season we can now possibly have a starter or maybe a solid backup that we got in the 3rd which wouldn't be a bad pickup.

I have said this a thousand times. I don't care how they do in these stupid workouts or combines. This is why I am not a GM LOL. What I care about is how they performed in the actual games. Which is why I liked MIke Williams, Cedric Benson and Aaron Rodgers over Smith, Brown and Edwards. Just a personal preferrence and opinion though

My thoughts are I will leave it to Saban and Mueller to evaluate talent and decide whether a certain player fits their scheme or not.

I can't possibly have as much information with which to form an opinion as they do.
