I am really curious to see him in pre-season games. He seems like a whole new player so far this pre season. He has lost 20 pounds and weighs 327 now. He moves better and has looked pretty good at times when blocking against Akeem Spence and Phillips. I hope he can be a starting guard for us in the future.

I was quite happy to see Miami take him. Looked good in college. But then, articles his feet 'were in concrete.' Not good for an OG. If it's technique, he should still be quite good. If it's lack of natural quickness, he won't be around long.

I don't think he will be around long. Maybe ps if eligible

We can only hope he makes a contribution but it's not looking good so far. Hoping for the best

He is in great shape, I see the weight loss, his problem in college was measuring targets mostly at the 2nd level..could not center his opponent consistently on the hoof.

Was pleasantly surprised by his scrimmage snaps.

I think Asiata is gonna be just fine as a backup or journeyman starter. He is one of those players that the fan base kind of expected much more from him than what he really is, and they expected it fast. For some reason he seems to be held to the standard of a second or third round pick, but he’s on par in reality. A day three offensive lineman. It’s gonna take some time

I'm also very excited to see Asiata play. He's a road grader with good feet, and I'm salivating thinking this year we may actually have 3 guards who can run block (Sitton, Davis, and Asiata) to survive injuries (most likely the veteran Sitton). I'm really hoping Asiata earns a roster spot.

I'm not giving up on him yet, I think with time and additional training he could become a solid contributor on this team.

Listed as the 2nd team right guard. Will they carry 2?

Interesting that Sterup is listed over Eric Smith on the initial release depth chart.

And at LT. Wasn't Eric Smith playing RT last season?

Yeah that’s why I probably wouldn’t read too much into it. They may see Young as the swing option 3rd tackle and Eric smith as the pure 2 deep right tackle.

One thing I’m sure of though is unless Smith or Sterup show they can play guard or have position versatility they aren’t carrying one of them.

The only wildcard in that scenario would be if they cut Sam Young and he makes dirt money so I’m not sure I see it and Gase also seems to trust him given his play in spot duty for us.

That height plays against Sterup at any place other than tackle. I think I recall him in camp last year pretty good athlete just wasn’t ready.

I don’t think Smith really has left tackle feet.

Agreed. He won’t get a chance because he hasn’t shown he deserves one yet. Right or wrong He won’t be on the team in 3 years.
