Dolphins have no intention of trying to win anything significant this season. All they're doing is just fielding a team. Prepare for 1-4 win seasons for the next two seasons. That will be when Miami will have healthy cap space, probably a top 5 pick and they'll probably jettison Tannehill if he's hasn't shown anything so Gase can finally start building his team. This is a rebuild, just the FO won't admit it for obvious reasons.

Your point being?

If a full rebuild is what this team needs to be competitive again, so be it

I think this is overstating their intentions to keep the future in mind. Rather than making drastic splash signings and cuts at an alarming rate, they're filling in holes and adding depth in FA. That's how most good teams do it. It's the first time in a LONG time that Miami has tried it. It's an encouraging sign, but if Miami does not draft well, it's a moot point. I do think they drafted well in 2015, and I expect steps forward from Parker, Phillips, Douglas, McCain, and Ajayi. I'm still not convinced on Lippett, but I'm rooting for him. If the 2015 Class shows up, and Miami drafts well in 2016, this patient approach to FA will fill in the roster very well. Gase and Joseph have been impressive. I can't get excited for Miami until they win, but I like the approach. Good teams are patient; bad teams are impatient. Tannenbaum painted himself into corners with the Jets, and it looked like he might here as well with Miami. Maybe he's learning his lesson? Maybe Gase is influencing the approach. Either way, I think it's the prudent path.

Yeah....no.

You rebuild by keeping draft picks, not trading down. You rebuild by getting rid of bad contracts, not taking them on like Maxwell's and then re-working it to pay less now and more later. You rebuild by keeping young guys and not letting them go and bringing in Mario for 2 years. This is the exact opposite of a rebuild. This is a FO so desperate to win now that they are taking veterans and/or bad contracts to fill holes, and re-working other bad contracts to free up more cap for now (like Suh). They are taking risks on guys who have flags (Mario - locker room, poor play/effort), Maxwell (poor play, medical on the shoulder), Kiko (medical), and Bushrod (medical).

I'm for it but the FO needs to come clean and let the naiive fans know what's up.

It's not good business for the coaches to come out and say, "Welp, we're gonna suck this year!"
You can read between the lines if you wish, with the transactions that have transpired so far. I agree we're probably not going to have a great season, but you can't put that out there so it dissuades people from coming to games, especially in the brand new (remodeled) stadium.

How so when they have Suh and Mario, and Maxwell who played for a sb winner. The fo has done a lot this fa to make the team more competitive.

The only prblm with Phins is the qb, until they get a competent vet they will not compete!

ehh I think QB is even further down the list now. Yeah this thread is premature because the draft is still 2 months away but none of these moves really shout "we're trying to get better" more like more band-aids. Trading down is not good when you have a lack of impact players to begin with.

What a ridiculous post... we might not win a lot of games, but it won't be because the FO is just intensively putting together a crappie team. Oh and what really makes this ridiculous is the part about fieldingredients a 1-4 win team for 2 seasons then Gass can really really build his team. First of all, it doesn't take that long to build a winning team, and most of all... if we don't get more than 4 win over the next two seasons then Gases won't be here for a 3rd.

We are not in full rebuild mode... If we were, we wouldn't be taking on contracts like Mario and trading down for platings instead of picks... Full rebuild mode is what the browns are in... Letting everyone of their players walk and keep quiet in FA... Miami is clearly trying to win now

I respectfully disagree as there is not a dominant team or even a bunch of really good teams. The SB winner doesn't have a QB and we beat the Patriots the last game of the season in a game of significants that probably cost them playing in the SB. Who have we lost? Vernon....Williams is just as good and hopefully won't have the bone head plays. Miller...CJ Anderson is a virtual clone. Grimes....major drop off and huge headache of a wife, gain through loss and not hard to replace.

What do we have to look forward to? Devante Parker is going to be huge this year! You saw it towards the end of last season. The combination of him and Landry should be an awesome tandem for years! Tannehill in a system where he can audible! Tannehill is a smart kid, being able to change the play at the line should be huge. I believe that the Guard position, at least Dallas Thomas will be addressed either in the draft or through FA. This IMHO is the biggest problem for this team. Suh we be able to be Suh a little more, I think he was not fully utilized last year. Kiko can be a huge upgrade if he can stay healthy.

While we still have some holes to fill, I don't think there is any drop off in talent (may be age) and we still have the draft and the rest of free agency. We didn't overspend on the talent that left that had us hovering around .500 for the last few years, which is awesome! We have the ability to make moves with the cap space that we have. Once again from top to bottom there is very little separation in the league right now and teams like Seattle and Denver who were very good face the same challenges in keeping players we do, just like every other team. This team, along with every other team in the league is not very far off.

They invested a lot in the offense and after last year they don't know what they have or don't have with tannehill.

There's not really much else they can do until they find out.

On the flip side, what if they spent all our present money and future money on free agents. And than you find out tannehill is still the same guy as last season. Now your completely screwed.

At the end of the day, quality drafting, developing young players, and a franchise QB, are the keys to a consistent playoff team.

We're not in a full rebuilding mode at all. Our Defense has plenty of holes and needs to be built around Suh, Williams, Wake, Jones and Alonso (assuming he's healthy) but our offense really is set on paper outside of an interior offensive lineman. We should draft developmental tackles and running backs, but there is no way our O needs to be "rebuilt".
I'm hoping that we can find a good vet guard before the season begins and draft the best 3 defensive players in rounds 1-3. Hopefully a blue chip corner and DE.
