I was thinking about our set of WR's this morning. Isn't it a bit ironic that our #1 WR (Chambers) has never had a 1,000 yard season but # 2 and # 3 (Booker and Boston) both have? I'm a big time Chambers fan but I thought it was a bit ironic. Thoughts?

Chambers needs to step it up this year. No excuses can be used with Linehan's offense. To me he has not proven to be a true # 1 yet. Yes he has the skills, but he needs to have a big year for us.

you are obsessed over a few yards. how many yards did he have last season??? ~950?? what if he had 999 yards? does that 1 yard make him a bad reciever.

you should look at what he brings to your team. he brings alot. its not his fault yall spread the ball around, try to run, and had QB problems.

1000 yards doesnt really mean that much. 1300 yards... now thats impressive.

i dont think its ironic, its not like they wree 1000 yard guys on our team... we haven't had a 1000 yard reciever since what like mcduffie in 98?

The biggest knock against Chambers coming out was his lack of concentration. His propensity to drop the easy ball and make a circus catch in the same drive was noted by most evaluators that I read.

He still hasn't changed that part of his game and until he does, he'll be exactly what he is, a great player with so-so results.

I can't agree more.

Booker looked like the #1 WR last week. His numbers were better and he made more pass plays. The reverse to Chambers wasn't a pass play.

I don't think Chambers has the "I'm gonna take over this game now" mentality that the great WRs have. Michael Irvin, Jerry Rice, Terrell Owens, etc. Even Anquan Boldin shows signs of having that. I think that's what makes Chambers appear less aggressive in fighting for balls downfield.

I had a friend who went to UW-Madison the same time Chambers did and he said that exact same thing.....it was frustrating and baffling to watch him make these ridiculous catches against solid DB's in the Big Ten, but then he would drop a really easy pass.

No doubt. He needs that killer instinct to keep that concentration sharp.

That bomb he dropped Sunday was the perfect example.....If he had that go-for-the-jugular mindset, he wouldn't have let that ball hit him right in the belly and fall to the ground. It was a time in the game where we weren't desperate to score and he showed it with his lackadaisical play.

Where do we come up with #1 and #2? Chambers starts on one side of the ball and Booker starts on the other side.

I agree 100%!

Watching the game a second time and over the last couple of years I keep seeing Chambers missing one thing, aggresivness at going and getting the ball.

I have always wondered if that hit he recieved when he got that serious concussion a couple years back made him more timid about exposing himself to hits.

I think we would have seen this out of him by now if he had this trait. Nothing against him he can make great plays he just cannot be counted on to be dominant.

can't argue with that-----i think he'll be a decent receiver, nothing like an issac bruce or marvin harrison but someone who can make some big plays when needed....i think with our RBs and TEs we just need people who can make plays, not necc take over the game

I think it's worth mentioning that our offense has been pretty predictable and one or two dimensional for the past few years. We have been focused on a run game, only offering our wideouts the occasional long ball (even when our qbs don't have the talent to throw it correctly) or the 3rd and 9 option every series when we're scampering to get a first down. That's not really the offense that puts up big numbers. Just look at indy, they are in 4 wides and 5 wides all the time and their playbook is light years above what we had to offer. So now that we have a solid run game, rb and rw, and we've got a great, creative coaching staff...I think this means huge dividends for our WRs this year. Just look at the first game, against a top ten defense...

We had 8 different recievers catch at least a pass...
Two guys had a TD...
and we had a running TD...
WE LEAD THE LEAGUE IN OFFENSE...

That should tell the tale right there about what we are capable of. And Saban even hinted that it wasn't hitting on all cylinders yet. Scary possibility.

I can't argue with what you've said---we really haven't been a throwing offense since Chambers has been here----so I guess we'll really get to see what he can do this year!
