Found this on a site that Chubby mentioned:

Pat White was selected by the Dolphins, and, at the risk of getting overexcited, there might be real ramifications to this.

As Jon Gruden just said, and I do my best to recollect his words from memory: "I've been studying the spread offense all last season, and it gives you a player advantage. Defenses were dropping extra guys into the box for the wildcat -- well here's a wildcat that can throw."

Implicit in what Gruden said is that what the Dolphins can do is go beyond to wildcat to simply the spread itself: the quarterback as dual threat, which puts the defense -- and specifically the safeties -- in an incredible bind. I have much discussed these ideas previously. Keep in mind too that Gruden knows what he's talking about on this point: he just returned from the University of Florida clinic where he lectured and talked with and learned from Bill Belichick and Urban Meyer -- and Meyer's offense was a particularly important subject, particularly the bind that a true dual threat quarterback provides.

Now, I'm not predicting White as rookie of the year, or that he will displace Chad Pennington, but this is an important pick because he goes to a team that knows what they are doing with this stuff. David Lee and Dan Henning obviously brought in the Wildcat series last season -- which relies on the same spread offense principles seen throughout college -- but did so without a true passing threat except as a gimmick. White should play about a series or two a game, and it will be fascinating to see how it plays out. (Note too it also eliminates all the injury fears common to going full-spread-to-run in the pros: if White got hurt they still have their starting quarterback.) Video below on the wildcat. Now add the passing element.

Imagine this if you will, White runs a Qb option to the Right, pitches back to Ronnie, Ronnie in turn throws it back to a Streaking up the sideline Pat White, oh my the possibilities are ENDLESS.

It's been said many times and some disagree, I myself think it's undeniable that the spread offense will become a major staple in the NFL sooner rather than later. As we've seen with other teams experimenting with the wildcat....the pats have a tendency to run a spread style offsense to keep teams with strong defenses at bay. All it is going to take is 1 team to really succeed with it releatively consistanly. It would also make Qb evaluation a lot easier IMO.

I'm not convinced about White, no QB that is a run first QB has ever amounted to much, and the plain simple fact of it all is, he is slower and smaller then most of them, look at his recent predecessors, Josh Cribbs, Brent Smith and Randel el, none of them are even QBs in the NFL.

Ronnie Brown Threw the Ball 4 times last year, I dont think the Wild cat and the Spread offense are the same thing

It will also stop some people from spouting off about how Tim Tebow won't be able to make it in the NFL. He should be a hot commodity in next year's draft.

Take out a RB and put in a QB (Pat White replacing Ronnie Brown) and the Wildcat becomes the spread offense.

WOW...you're way off on this one...

It has more to do with the O-line than who is taking the snaps...

As well as make Urban Meyer the most sought after coach in the NFL.

I would hardly call Pat a run-first QB, as the WVU fans here will attest. He always had a talented backfield in college, so run plays were put in for him to take advantage of that (he obviously has the physical ability) He does have recent history working against him, though; as McNabb and Garrard are the closest things to mobile QBs that have starting jobs in the NFL.
