If I recall most of us on this board expected growing pains this year under Saban. Is it because they beat Carolina and Denver? Did that change expectations? Exactly where did Saban exist as a NFL coach and where did he drop to a college coach trying to coach in the NFL?
What did Nick have to work with when he got to Miami?
a. uncertainity
b. high expectations (which are ok)
c. poor roster
d. limitations in salary cap
What did he do?
a. Brought in what is considered to be one of the best coaching staffs he could get at a number of positions.
b. Brought in stop gap players who were decent for the money (Carter, Holiday, Schulters)
c. Drafted pretty decently as considered by most experts and folks on this board.
d. Focused on teaching football versus strictly overseeing it.
Why are folks on this board having a hard time with him? This is why I think. He comes from a reputation of discipline and structure, where mistakes are not supposed to freely exist. This is why I believe Miami fans are all over him. Because Miami resembles anything but discipline on the field with regards to penalties and mistakes. This is where fans expected to see major change, even if Miami was beaten by better talent.
I am hopeful that will change and there is no doubt that this roster will be a work in progress to find those kind of players.
I am not going to criticize fans for wanting to win, and being critical of players, but I understand the growing pains and am not shocked at the struggles. I think the biggest surprise is the magnitude of mistakes. Message time to Mr. Hadnot, and the OL in general. Message time to the DL regarding watching the football. Message time for the team to play with a level head.
And possibly time to consider some shake-up at the QB position. Not much to shake-up with, but at least look at it. And by no means throw the season out.
