It is now obvious that Philbin viewed Flynn as only a slight upgrade, if that.

The initial report from some was seattle low balled him and didnt see him as a sure starter. i dont believe either report. Maybe we did low ball him because for some reason a team with three straight losing seasons has little cap room even after trading one of thier most expensive players. i just think seattle seemed a more attractive option and i dont see such the seattle deal as being huge money. They guaranteed 10 mill, hell we gave almost that much to a friggin safety that is noty even near top notch,

It all boils down to what Philbin thinks of Flynn. You either believe Ireland followed Philbin's opinion or he ignored it and low balled Flynn.

Sorry Ireland hired Philbin, I'm sure they talked in debt about this way before Philbin was actually hired.

I don't think either Smith or the Dolphins were being genuinely serious about signing. Miami kind of wanted Flynn but did not want to pay him franchise money, Smith was hurt about the Peyton thing and hates his agent. So they used each other as a play to both get what they want. For Smith that was a better contract and satisfaction of the threat of SF being without a solid starter if Peyton signs elsewhere, for the fins a possiblity to get a really really low priced Flynn which did not work.

My only point here is that yes.. low balling flynn backfired a bit but before Flynn had made his decison we were already looking elsewhere. If Philbin really really really wanted him we would have done what we did with Peyton (stick with him like glue until he said no)

I really DO not think Miami will sign Alex Smith..

But if they do it will be only after Peyton signs with the 49'rs as we could then low ball smith to a contract that is lower than 8 Million per year.

I really think we may pick up a really cheap veteran and roll the dice in the draft.

but weve been negotiating a talking for 5 hours with smith. been here since this morning. flynn saw that and got spooked. Face it, Alex Smith took his team to the championship. You can slice that, dice that anyway you want to, but Flynn cant say that. He prob could if he were starting in GB now, but Alex Smith has been starting in this league since day one. He had a rough road and bad coaching and bad team. It came to fruition this past year.

Has anyone considered that Harbaugh is a jerk? He certainly looks the part to me sometimes. Isnt he the one who got into it with the detroit HC after the game? U see, people only see what they want to see, but I am sure Alex Smith has seen things that go unreported cus well, SF was successful. But they spurned him.

Alex Smith shows up Sunday morning. Now negotiating. thats all I know.

Maybe Smith things Miami is his last chance at 8 mil per year. If SF signs Manning, who will pay him 8 mil other than Miami. If SF doesn't get Manning, will SF feel the need to offer his 8 mil per year if he has no other offers. I could be that Smith may take the sure money in Miami vs. the maybe in SF. His visit could also be using Miami as a way to jack up the SF offer. Lots of possibilities out there. It's a real chess match. I wish I had more confidence in our ability to play the "chess" game. If we only knew what the FO was thinking we'd have a better idea of what to praise or be critical about.

let go back to some reality here shall we?

What we definitely heard was that Seattle offered Flynn a chance to compete. What you heard from "sources", once again, our FO is not telling anyone anything (cant you tell because everyone is tweeting and not writing anything, is that we were offering starter day one. S Florida media dont know anything except what you hear from outsiders. Which alot of times is just opinion and heresay.

so here comes alex smith. uh oh. time to spin. only ireland isnt spinning. he really is making the world spin. now comes garrard. lol
