Thanks to Mr. Yu in another thread, I just realized the best part of being a phin fan of this year vs. the last couple of years.

For the past several years, at the beginning of each season, I would watch my beloved Dolphins come out of the gate fast, take care of teams that they should, and play well at home, just to watch them fade away in the second half of the season.

So, when the next season rolled around, I had expectations (especially after good starts) that the team would turn a corner and really find a way to produce consistantly, only to be let down again.

Here is where the difference lies: until this year, I had been conditioned to expect my team to get progressively worse each season (based on past seasons). Now, even after a loss, I realize that what is happening is good for the team going forward.

Now, if I catch myself thinking about next season prematurely (don't act like you don't do it...), I find myself thinking differently. I have realistic rather than malcontent expectations, and it's a very good feeling to have.

With all the doom and gloom threads getting tossed around this board lately, stop and ask yourself if you have the same expectations now as you did at the same point in the season last year, or hte last 4 years. Mine are beeter this year because I see change happening. It may not be equating to playoff football yet, but I can see the direction the team is trying to go, and it's a wonderful change to see.

Ok, I'm off the soap box now. You can all go back to falming Saban, firing Linehan and scraping Gus :D

Nice post! I actually expect us to be better at the end of this season as well.Maybe not playoff caliber but getting there.Btw Gus still sucks:tongue:

Great post bro. It goes good with the Albert King, and Stevie Ray Vaughan playing in my ear with my beer. I have also thought of what will next year entale, and I start to smile, and say it's getting better!;)

I catch myself thinking about why we keep losing to teams we should beat....then it hits me...I'm thinking about next season...too much.

I think thats a great post.

IMO a lot of people came in and are still under this unrealistic impression that Nick Saban or any other coach was some kind of magician who could waive his magic wand and restore us to division winners in 1 year. Enthusiasm is all well and good but reality will sometimes bite the people with overzealous expectations in the butt. Fact of the matter is this team was not good last year and regardless of what people think the players we had were not very good either.

The very fact that we cleaned house, have 20+ new players on our roster this year, tells a lot about where this team is now and where we're heading. We're probably 1 good draft and Fa signing period away from restoring the talent you need to compete for a division. With all the cap room we will have a draft pick that will probably be middle of the pack we have a big opportunity to turn the corner next season while restoring respectability this season. The rest of this season is about learning for the young players and making Miami a place desireable FA's want to play again. Its about watching our kids like Ronnie and Channing grow into star roles and watching our vets like JT and Sam hopefully start to play like bigtime players again. I like this much better than the past few years under wannfart where we watched out team jump out to 7-2 or 6-1 or whatever only to stink it up the second half of the year. Expectations have been tempered somewhat and i think more people are starting to understand this was not a 1 year turnaround job.

Im not giving up on this season but I think its more important that we understand that despite the winning tradition we're used to cleaning house and turning over the roster was necessary even if it made this a transitional year.

No disagreement from me. But what do we gain by replacing him now?

I think Saban still sees us in the middle of the pack for the division (possibly leading it after next week!!!). If he pulls the drunken sailer that we have at QB now and replaces him with a guy that has thrown less than 50 passes in the league, when he fails we are screwed. Emotionally and otherwise. We have to rool with the guy that has been there, done that until there is no hope of getting into the playoffs.

Think of this: Our offensive line has progressed nicely over the past 9 weeks, so has our running game. We are seeing progression in the areas we were the weakest last year. Even at QB: at least Gus hasn't thrown any pick sixes (yet...).

we are doing things a little better each week, with the exception of QB and maybe receiver. scrapping the QB would not help us gain any ground, it would just surrender the season. What do you think all the vets that Saban brought in would think if Saban replaced Gus with Sage. It would take one bad performance (wich would defenitely come) and they would think "well crap. might as well start thinking about next season."

Great post Brother Boik! Family members need to realize you can't fix 5 years of problems in several months. This is a 2-3 year plan, so grab your beer and support this team like no other!:beerbang:
