Ohio State are gonna win this game now, but it shouldn't be lost how ineffective Young has been. This is why I was never on board with the taking him ahead of a Tua or Burrow with our first pick, he would be even more of a target for double teams on our no name Defense. He's a great player don't get me wrong, but we are not in a good place to draft him and expect the narrative to change for this franchise.

Johnathan Taylor mind...he was my #1 RB going into this, just beefed his resume even further, the kid is spectacular and someone I would be seriously targeting for 1b or c.

I would be shocked if he is dude. His production, his tape and his measurables will make him a 1st rounder, probably the first RB off the board, Swift isn't fit to tie his shoelaces in my view.

During the first half Chase Young looked remarkably small and insignificant. I kept thinking if you draft this guy you better darn sure have a half dozen stars around him, to allow your defense to dictate the game. Otherwise he is basically invisible out there. His effort level isn't even very good when the opposing offense is controlling matters, or the play is away from him. Jog central.

But I have seen this Ohio State/Wisconsin movie countless times. It is amazing how frequently it plays out this way, especially when the game is at Wisconsin. The Badgers blue collar mentality control matters in the first half but never separates enough. Then the superior manpower of Ohio State takes over in the second half, eventually nullifying the deficit then easing ahead. It is so dependable I never waste time rooting for Wisconsin anymore. Tonight was neutral site but I wasn't going to pretend it would prevent the inevitable.

Once Ohio State took command, then Wisconsin's energy sagged and Young made some nice plays. He times the snap count very well. He is clever with the stop and readjust. He can squeeze through tiny openings. He can push backward with surprising effectiveness, given his size. He is very good on misdirection plays because he'll diagnose and stand his ground, instead of over pursuing.

But he is not explosive. That stands out beyond anything, given how highly he is rated and where he is projected to be drafted.

Always enjoy your takes bro.

The one good thing Michigan did throughout their entire game against the Buckeyes was make Young ineffective.

Did you watch the whole game? Young is dominant. Takes on double and triple teams. His impact on the field is felt and visible on every play.
The RB class is stellar. There is no reason justifiable to pass on an ultra elite DE for a rb in the first.

I think it has more to do with Wisconsin’s gameplan and scheme than young not playing up to a certain level.

once that game got one dimensional as in pass with Wisconsin young started showing up near the qb. And he dealt with a ton of help against him all game long.

only real knock i see in the player is some hip stiffness as a pass rusher. Just for the flatten aspect. The frame is ungodly

I did watch the whole game, I disagree on the dominated the whole game. He was ineffective for 3/4 of it. Only really came into it for the last 1/4 when Wisc were tiring. I think he finished with 4 tackles and two pressures, most of those tackles were assisted. I noticed on a number of occasions he wasn't able to bring Taylor down on his own. Being clear though, I am not saying he's not a great prospect and worthy of a top 5 pick, but I just don't think he's a great fit for our situation, and totally agree with Awsi, that to really shine he's going to have to go to a situation like Bosa did where he's not all alone.

Wisconsin did a great job on him and they have a very good Oline. Young is a good player but best in the country??
At this point there's no doubt Burrow was the best player in the country this year.

I didn’t get to watch the game yesterday but you realize every player has a bad game every now and then, that includes Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa, Von Miller, Khalil Mack, Tom Brady, every one.

But I enjoyed your detailed analysis. Especially the part about Young not being explosive and being remarkably small. You should watch some of his other games, or wait for the combine, either way you couldn’t be more wrong on those.
