Instead of throwing so many 2-3 yard routes that don't do a damn thing for your offense, you start throwing the 20 yard plus routes.

Miami doesn't have to pass the football 35-40 times a game to be effective, completely neglecting the running game in the process.

25 passes where 6-8 of them are shots down the field will make a world of difference in the passing game.

Hey, let's get specific if you are going to support Dave's philosophy. He is saying not passing much and running 40+ times. So, don't compare 300 yds passing to 100 yds rushing. 300 yds passing usually means you are playing catch up and abandoning the run. Why not look up those winning 100yd rushing teams and see what their passing yards were. They were probably 2:1 in favor of passing. Balance is what we need. 30/30 rush/pass palying calling. Dave would run the ball the entire game if he thought he would be successful or was truly scared of his QB. Wait, he already does :mad:

Well, those 2-3 yd throws were Jay's doing. Let's wait and see what AJ does. He didn't do that in his half last week so our offense should look pretty good because Tennessee is no slouch. I don't mind short passes if they are at least 5yds per. 2-3 yds every down doesn't get you a first. Hmm, kinda sounds like our passing offense last year.

Which is not the truth. Miami ran the ball a total of 487 times last season. Baltimore ran it 553 times. Denver ran it 543 times. Green Bay ran it 507 times. Carolina ran it 521 times. Dallas ran it 515 times.

Those are the only 6 teams in the NFL that ran more than they passed.

The splits:

Team - Rush Att/Pass Att.

Baltimore - 553/415
Green Bay - 507/474
Denver - 543/478
Carolina - 521/461
Dallas - 515/510
Miami - 487/450

The respective records of these teams:

Carolina - 11-5
Baltimore - 10-6

In part I agree... genarlly the team that have a very good RB win, not all the teams, but I think that Wanny abuse of the running, lat year was very predictible, all the team know that the team will, run, and run all the time, and we need more balance, If we have a good RB, this will help AJ to exploude more and better the passing game.... but if the team run in every 1° down, all teh teams will stop os.

I think from what I saw we could have a more balance team with AJ (we have to wait and see) if he is acurate and Lamar could run the offense could move better than other years....

true but most teams defended against the run with us last yr since we couldnt pass. didnt most of those team have a decent passing game? what did we rate in passing last yr?

Ok, we ran great 2 years, didn't go anywhere. Where did Dallas go? How deep did the Ravens get? Green Bay has Farve and a great passing attack. Denver has a great OL so anything works for them most of the time. Carolina had Jake making some great TD throws. Where are the SB champs? They won the SB without running that much. St Luis didn't run that much. The Ravens and Bucs didn't run that much and both won the SB. Pittsburgh runs and runs and runs and never gets very far.

So, it is true. What I want you to do is show me a team that runs a hell of a lot more the they throw, i mean lopsided, that has won the SB. 49ers? Nope. Dallas with Aikmen and Irving? They ran, but I doubt they were lopsided under JJ.

Now as far as the soundest philosophy in football is BEING ABLE TO RUN THE BALL, not ONLY being able to run the ball.
 
It's balance that gets you productivity, you run to set up the pass, or you pass to set up the run, it depends on what the defense is giving up.
Miami's problem is the lack of respect for the passing game, they need to connect deep often for a few games and let teams know that Feeley and company can be effective through the air, then you'll see defenses backing out of the box when Miami hits them on a deep one, and you'll see Gordon running effectively.
