at some point this season. He wouldn't have to go in unless Harrington got injured and he could get solid reps during the week with little risk of injury.

As of right now and considering how he's fared this season, he is a backup. But he's too expensive to be a backup unfortunately. So if he falters next season ala 2005 and gets shown up by Harrington again, he's gone. Right now, we're winning with Joey not Daunte, who's maybe showing why other teams weren't so enthusiastic about pursuing him last offseason.

why? let him heal for next season, play Lemon if we need a back-up. he might be a gem, you never know

Because he needs to be ready for next season and you don't get ready by avoiding real nfl competition.

True. I think if it were a foregone conclusion that Culpepper isn't coming back then Saban would've already placed him on the IR and kept Berger on the roster.

I thought you were meaning NEXT season.BTW if Joey keeps playing the way he is(and we keep winning) Daunte might be the back up next year.

I don't think Daunte will be the backup, in that scenario most likely Daunte would be cut or traded before he would become a backup because we can spread the cap hit over 2 years taking something like 3 mil hit each year as opposed to taking a 6 mil hit getting rid of him later on.

Plus I just think Daunte has way too big of an ego to sit the bench and support Harrington if that decision was made he would most likely be screaming to be traded.

why is a good question? Daunte is our starter... why risk it if we have a fat chance of even sniffing the playoffs ??? Cleo Lemon is a nice backup we don't NEED Cpep risking his career to try and prove he can still play when we need him to do that next year.

I want someone hungry out there and that's Joey. Daunte isn't even a leader.... he's just washed up.. lets face it...

Then every player is one tackle away from being washed up... because Daunte's injured. Jay Fiedler was one of the "hungriest" players i ever saw.. doesn't mean he's cut out to win Super Bowls. It takes talent unfortunatley.. and Daunte is by far the better passer, and quarterback when healthy. It just so happens i've seen a whole bunch of "washed up" players make huge comebacks.
