As we know the NFL is a QB driven league... now more than ever..... It's about developing the player at the position, it's about matching the system to the player, or it's about matching the player to the system... they both work.

Unfortunately the Dolphins have NEVER developed a QB... it just wasn't in their gene pool going all the way back to the beginning.... they have never thought it important..... and it's been a problem forever.... Griese was part of a whole... Danny was... well Danny... and not unitl Penny came along did we have another QB (again already developed) fully capable of running the position.

I'm encouraged when I look at the new coaching staff... they have pelts on the wall developing QB's.... the focus is on developing the players at the position... not just running an offense.... If anyone can get the most out of the PLAYERS at the position... it's these guys.... everyone just needs to take a deep breath and let them do their job.....

It's about time....

Bob Griese was a player that Don Shula developed. Griese was not very good before Shula come on board...outside of that though...nada. But then again we haven't really put forth the effort. The Dolphins have always been a win now organization, spending in free agency and trying to buy a super bowl. We haven't developed our own draft picks since the 70's. We've been quick to give up on a lot of draft picks and for the most part none of them have deserved to be kept around. Soliai is the only guy on this roster that took a full 3 years to develop and we showed patience with him and it paid off.

It's going to be interesting to see Philbin bring the Green Bay philosophy to Miami where the organization is committed to developing its own and in return the players show the same commitment back to the organization. You very rarely hear of players in Green Bay holding out for more money or being unhappy with their situation.

I think in the early Shula years there was a great deal of player development especially on the defensive side....

The issue has always been QB development... and lack there of.... think the OC was the be all end all.... clearly the Dolphins are one of the poster children for falling behind the times when it comes the the most important position on the team....

I'm hopeful this new staff will change the process...

I like what Shula did with Woodley and Jensen. He also took a QB and switched him to WR making him a pro bowler. I can remember his name but he left the dolphins and went to San Diego with a big contract.
