i agree, if ireland didnt have something against picking a qb in the first round i think he would be a great gm.

lol, well if I was any good at WR I'd be in the NFL. There are no great GM's who cannot find a QB, in any way, shape or form.
I can't help but laugh when I see someone honestly believe that it was better in the Wanny days. The truth is that Wannstedt was absolutely hopeless at drafting. He knew he was hopeless and invariably traded draft picks for players, who invariably didn't live up to expectations. Every team is going to have its share of draft busts, but Ireland clearly has a good eye for talent and has to get a decent grade for his draft and free agent recruiting.
Too many "negative nellies" in here. I expect our Defense to dominate this season and all we need is a bit of luck with Henne reducing his interceptions and using his rocket arm to build his confidence and we will be a decent team. I'm confident that we are going up and the Jets are going down. Feel free to rub that in my face if I'm wrong!

So his other coaching experience is at tight end, another position we stink at.
4 years of free agency and drafting, and THAT is the focus here. The free agency for this regime is below average. There are Wakes, Dansbys, and Marshalls. And then a long list of Columbos, McQuistans, Bergers, Gerbils, Eric Greens, Wilfords, and Groves.

Dude, they are 1 ****ing game over 500 if u include the playoff game (which was an abject failure) and they will probably be 500 after they face one of the best teams in the NFL to open the season. Even if you do like most of the moves they have made, and I can't really see how u could feel that way, in what miserable ****ty universe is 500 good???

Listen, they built a pretty good D and brought in a nice D coordinator, but offensively, we still have the same EXACT problems we had when they took over! Plus I think 0-6 to end each of the last 2 years says it all. PISS POOR COACHING!
Not to mention, given 3 full years and 4 off seasons, the O LINE GURU has built an AWFUL offensive line. great.

So in 4 years the best thing this FO and coaching staff has done is find one FA who can play in the NFL.
Well, this makes up for losing 2 out of 3 seasons and spending 128 million and several draft picks on a OL that still has massive holes in it.
The long list of what they did wrong compared to the short list of what they did right is not even close.

Then you have a HUGE list of guys like Ayodele, Gibril Wilson, Haynos, Donald Thomas, Jerry, Henne, Pat White, Berger, Gardner, Murphy, Eric Green, McCown, Wilford, Smiley, Grove, McQuistan, Colombo, Thigpen, Barbie, Dobbins, and many more!

How is that different from other teams? Baltimore has a superior front office. Who else? Remember, Miami was 1-15 when this team was taken over by the current staff. There have been a lot of plugging holes in a sinking ship. Sometiimes you have to grab what ever you can to plug those holes until the water you pump out of your ship is more than the water leaking in. Then you can be more specific on what your using to keep from sinking. I think the choices of Groves, Smiley,Wilson, McQuistan, and others were like that. As for the draft picks. First and second round picks should be considerable contributers, but other than that, you look to third and fourth as possible starters and solid backups. Everything else is gravy. Here are the misses: White, Merling, Henne (maybe, give him one more year), Turner, Murphy, and Jerry. Here are the hits: Long, Langford, Davis, Smith, Hartline and Missi. The jury is still out on Odrick, Edds, and this year's draft. However, my gut tells me Odrick, Edds, Pouncy, and Gates are all hits. I'm not sure of Thomas. Who has had a better draft the last four years? Less than half the league, I imagine.
I know KC for one, they actually know it takes playmakers to win. Pioli makes Ireland look like an amateur.
I wouldn't call Smith, Misi, Hartline hits. Hits of what? The bong? Their production, or lack of, certainly makes me want to.

Great Defenses take over games! They don't let Colt McCoy march down the field on them to win the game! They step up and make plays and create turnovers. They start doing that and we can call them great, until then they are just good!
