It is basically public record that they were going to put him on NFI without pay before this all really blew up. This has been widely reported and has not been disputed by anyone. I can also tell you that the team was going to go after his signing bonus, the same way they did with Ricky Williams. That's hundreds of thousands of dollars. That's not worth applying pressure on the team to protect?
