I would say that, if anything, this is what it looks like when you don't do as good of a job as the Dolphins did when it comes to diminishing your liability.

The Vikings should have called the league office in for an immediate investigation that would have then shielded team management from blame.

He got to keep his signing bonus. He went on NFI with pay. Neither of these things were going to happen if he didn't handle it the way he did.

The team played hardball with him and he put them back on the defensive by posturing for a lawsuit. It was a smart move to protect himself.

Just because he didn't file a suit doesn't mean he had no financial motive for what he did. By making the obvious moves to position himself for a lawsuit, he applied a lot of pressure on the Dolphins to put him on NFI with pay and not go after his signing bonus.

It is basically public record that they were going to put him on NFI without pay before this all really blew up. This has been widely reported and has not been disputed by anyone. I can also tell you that the team was going to go after his signing bonus, the same way they did with Ricky Williams. That's hundreds of thousands of dollars. That's not worth applying pressure on the team to protect?

I doubt it was about that because at worst he would have lost some pay but no reason to believe he was going to get cut before it totally blew up. No evidence of anything really. I think it was exactly what it appeared to be a guy that wasn't very stable couldn't hack it for whatever reason.
