It's not a great report....

hadnot at center? word up!!!

I wouldn't get excited yet. I'd wait to see if he can make the calls etc. Hadnot can be a 'good' guard. I however only see him as average. I'm sure the team was hoping Smith would take over as soon as he learned enough about playing center.

He played center in college. I don't see it as becoming a problem at all.

Im thrilled about Carey still. I never left my faith from him, and I have past posts to prove that! Bout time we started looking for a new center. Its getting preaty crappy hearing that our DT's are taking the quickest way to get to the qb without any problem. As far as Wright goes, I think he has more "football strength" then weightlifting strength. I dont care how he does it, just show it! Thanks for the report!
Yeah, looks like all those people that were saying his bench press reps didn't really amount to anything in relation to his football strength, were right on the money.

It's about time!!....

McKinney should have never been out there to start with. He's been dominated the day he was drafted, and although his attitude and work ethic is solid, as a player he's below average.....

R. Hadnot made huge strides in 2004, and it was just a matter of time before McKinney was replaced by him IMO. I'm glad to hear it has now happened. Maybe McKinney would be better suited as an OG. Center is not his calling....

Later....

i'm more interested in how st.clair will cope at RG. i always thought st.clair to be one of the worst o-lineman in the league until last year when he proved he can play above average. Whether or not he can make the adjustment to guard remains to be seen. All of a sudden i'm slightly on edge...but i guess if things don't work out we can just shift hadnot back to RG and let st.clair and mckinney battle for the center position.

It looks like Rex is versitile too.

Thanks as always 05.

Hadnot at center....THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT. I was hoping there would be a change at center soon. Now let's hope that Hadnot can digest the nuances of the center position and take the job from him. We all know Hadnot is better than McKinney in blocking, but the center position also includes calling out the blocking schemes. Let's hope Hadnot can pick that up fast. If he does, McKinney is a faded memory far far away  .

McKinney is better suited for the bench only. He is getting manhandled by our second, third and fourth string DTs.

But I'll tell you what I did see. I watched the o-line.

They FINALLY moved Hadnot to center and promoted St Clair to RG.

McKinney and Whitley were both beaten badly by Vickerson, Shaw, and Wright over and over again. One time I started screaming "Whitley, Whitley" after he was beat bad by Wright and Josh Shaw turned and chuckled.

Vickerson was very actice and looks good.

On one play Manny Wright showed why we drafted him and why people say he shows glimpses of greatness. He did a great spin move on McKinney and totally killed him, got right by him. It was sick.

Then on another play Josh Shaw threw McKinney to the ground.

McKinney and Whitley were ragdolls out there vs Wright, Vickerson, and Shaw tonight. It was embarrassing.

In the scrimmages Hadnot did a very good job at center. He did well at blocking his man, releasing and getting to Zach.

A line of Carey (who was damn near flawless out there tonight except for this one play that JT beat him) James, Hadnot, St Clair, and Stockar (who looked great tonight and dominated Roth in one on one's) is much better then the one with McKinney and IMO could form into a nice solid group. Not great, but respectible.

I've been saying all along Hadnot should be moved to his college position of center.

McKinney is another bad selection from the Wannstedt/Spielman era.

Good... I was waiting for this to happen.

And CK, we do have SOME depth, but not as much as I would like. Figure if this is our starting line, we have McIntosh as a Tackle backup and Cook as a G backup and McKinney as a C backup. We definately need another G and T as backups. I think Whitley can hold down the fort as a backup, but thats about it. Its a real shame if Wade Smith goes down, he could have been a backup C and T. We definately need a solid backup T in the mix. Maybe a rookie will emerge as a good tackle backup. Alabi? Thompson?

A solid group would be welcome to start with. I actually expected less. If they start out solid, things should continue to improve through the season under Houck.

Damn man...so much for the depth we had at the OL position. In one short period we lost our backup Center to injury, a guy who actually looked like he was showing a lot of promise at the position, then we see that our starting center and backup left guard really suck badly (and always have) leading us to have to pull our starting RG who looked good, put him at Center, and pull the one quality depth player we had in John St. Clair, and have him start at RG.

So basically, Whitley is a human turnstile, McKinney is a human turnstile, Wade Smith is gone to injury, Pape inexplicably retired or went AWOL and nobody knows why, and McIntosh is our only semi-quality depth.

If Damion Cook doesn't turn out to be any good, we could be in real trouble here with our depth on the OL.

Amen. So any word on Damien Cook? Havent heard his name even once throughout TC. Greg Bedard seems to think that Saint Clair is a better tackle than OG.

i thought st. clair was supposed to be good at center...

Hadnot was a center in college and I think he would do well there. We need to upgrade the LG position.
