I have been in military physicals all day missing most of this action, so as I checked the threads to see how things turned out there seems to be a lot of sceptisim from everyone. Im wondering why?
First of all Parcells, Ireland and Sparano are all proven and developing talent for their systems. Also they are good at finding underated players and making them big time contributers.
Wilford is a wonderful pick up for wide reciever core. Most of the guys on the roster are very young in their careers and their size is small and fast. Wilford brings a much needed deminsion in two ways. He will play off the line and run the routes over the middle and taking out first threats on running plays. He also brings that big body that can go deep over the middle. He has sure hands most of the time and gives us a good target underneath. He wont be a huge playmaker for every play but will feel a much needed big WR role which we lacked totally. (Not to many years taken out of the tank)
Smiley is a big body who can take the spot over Hadnot or line up with him if we decide to resign him. Not going to cry if we lose him even if he was our most consitent lineman last year. Face it alot of people could have looked good on that poor line. Smiley is young and really we didnt spend a lot on him. He has issues with a torn muscle but if it isnt healed the trade will fall through so there should be no worries on that if he passes. He is a very intense blocker who brings a nasty side to a once soft hands only blocking line. He will get his body on people and drive them off the ball. A lot of niners fans called him there soon to be K. Gogan and we all know how crazy that man was. He and Satele will be a good tandem together under Sparanos coaching.
Tobor and Anderson bring great talent and youth to the linebackers core. They are going into a system that will be living off LBs making play quickly and attacking from all areas. Jason Taylor if not traded or Long will be moving around a lot mixing it up keeping OTs on their toes. Sometimes as nothing more than decoys to allow these big ILBs to come in and makes plays. Your looking at a lot of movement all over the place keeps thing active and QBs confused on where the 4th and 5th man will be coming from. If we pick up Pace it is just one more sure special teamer and big LB for our system. The team will have quite a few LBs on its roster and less DTs.
Imagine a line that has this depth
Starters...... Ends Holliday and Long with Ferguson at NT
Relief.......Ends R. Wright and Starks with Soliai at NT ( remember starks dropped in pass coverage in Tenn and has great leg strength and speed off the line. He doesnt have to stay at DT in a 3-4)
You Lb core depth already is
OLBS - Taylor, Porter , Anderson
ILBS- Crowder , Tobor, Pace???
this excludes younger guys who yet to proove any worth or some rookies we draft in later rounds
Corner is our hot spot now and I think the signs lead to a few new younger guys coming in. Maybe a Talib or Flowers early second and some else in the 4th. Parcells has a history of bringing out young corners on his teams. If we bring McCree at Saftey we have some more depth there. The Dolphins liked Silva out of BC and he reminds me of a Bua at saftey. Brings a good work ethic and could be seen later if we pick up a mid round comp. pick. or make a trade.
This is getting interesting and McCown adds some saftey at the QB. In the grand scam to we got a lot of talent for the right price. We overpaid Porter last year and it hurt us the rest of the offseason. They were smart and we can still tie up some money elsewhere. These signing will lead to cuts shortly. I dont see Roth sticking around much longer or Fifta. If you look at the roster we have some questionable spots at LB to and TE. The signing of Ryan means we will be losing either Martin, Halterman or Peele. Maybe two of them with the intrest the team showed at the combine.
There is money to be made in releases and that will cover at least two of these signings.
All in all this should make everyone happy for two reasons. We started a whole new system with new faces and a new look that no one has yet to see. Second it showed that are being smart with our signing getting good talent for a good price. This will get things going in more cuts more siginings and most likely another interesting trade. Losing a 6th isnt that bad. You forget to fast what we have given up seconds thirds and fifths for. A sixth and switch next year in that round is nothing for a sure vetran tackle in a system and coaching staff he already knows. The youth just got better with that trade.
If im lying or wrong on any of this please comment.
THINK POSITIVE
PS
Im from Hokie town and we finally got a good Hokie in Wilford that makes up for vick and Druckenmiller!!
