it is the O line.

I went back and watched the Jets game again. We had the deep passes called, but Pennington was IMMEDIATELY running for his life and the plays never developed. On that flea-flicker Ted Ginn was ALL ALONE. That was a TD for sure (assuming he catches it). But the play was busted because the line allowed Ricky to be tackled before he could pitch the ball. To pass deep you have to have the protection to allow the WRs time to get open. It all starts with the line.

That's how that Pats won their superbowls. They didn't have stud WRs then, but the line gave Brady so much time, I could have gotten open.

Give the line time to gel and watch the passing game open up.

To me it looked like Ricky ran to far open to have a chance to pitch the ball back to the QB

I have to agree, the plays have been called, we have a vertical threat but no results. Why? Long protects, Carey protects, but opposing defenses are coming right up our gut.

Satale is being exposed this year and now with Thomas out and Smiley still getting acclimated, the only way to try to nuetralize getting manhandled at our center spot is to throw quick slants, screens, and run off tackle.

The excuses begin for Pennington. Same problem last year; no excuses. Wonder why?

Makes total sense to me. I get so sick of everyone saying this is all Ted Ginn's fault. What a joke. All of our problems start in the trenches. It would be easy for me to blame it all on Pennington (because I cant stand him) but it is not even his fault. Until we have a line that can protect defenses are just going to put 8 and 9 in the box and bring the house.

We do need to open up the play calling and take some chances early in a game and stop trying to play so conservative. We need to try and get a quick lead by taking some serious shots down field in the 1st quarter. This who issues with conservative play calling is retarded. Then maybe some shots down field just possible might draw the defense out a little bit and allow for either Ronnie or Ricky to gain more than 2 yards at a time.

This is no one players fault and especially not Ted Ginn's fault. Who ever the idiots are blaming Ted Ginn for everything are just retarded and by doing so show everyone they have no football common sense.

Have a mobile QB would help at this moment but we dont have one so lets just deal with it.

The good news is that most of the issues with the O-line have been mental...people just not picking up who they are supposed to. Satele has been getting bull-rushed alot by Jenkins, but I saw the Patriots center having the same issue with Jenkins this weekend...so maybe Jenkins is just good...

Also, a number of protection issues have been due to Ronnie and Ricky...they have to step it up...maybe that is why we have been seeing Cobb to some extent. (Just a thought...)

Let me clear up last year for you and I am not making an excuse for Penny's arm, because I agree it is weak, but last year the Jets opened the season against the Pats, Penny was having a good day, he then hurt his ankle, badly as we later found out he had two torn ligaments, he came back in the game gimping all over the place and the Jests lost. Then he comes back two weeks later, again with two torn ligaments in his ankle, now Mangina ask Penny, who has a weak arm to start with to throw with one leg, the results speak for themselves. If you disagree just go back to 06, when the last were suppose to be in last place and ended 10-6 and in the playoffs. I think this Penny arm issue is way blown out of content.

You have to remember that only two guys from last years O line are on this years. It takes time for a line to gel. An offseason really isn't enought time to know exactly what the guy next to you is going to do. It will get there.

Our line ran and pass blocked better with Carey at LT and Houck coaching them.

Totally agree, in fact I am convinced that if we let Long to play the RT position on the NFL, is going to be easier for him, then in two years we can put him on the left side (like we did with Carey). After moving Long, we can put Smiley on the right side to help him (Smiley plays better at RG), then we should add a player like Bentley (if healthy) to the LG or move Satele to LG (he is playing poor at C).

Our line looking like this: Carey LT Nduke/Mathis/FA LG Satele C Smiley RG Long RT would be much better than the one we have.

The problem is that management wants Long to play left tackle to get rid of Carey or pay him less money next year... BIG mistake (cause he is the ONLY solid OL we have right now!!!!!)

So Henne jumping right in, and suddenly we have a vertical attack. Face it man, Penny is a manager who doesn't look deep because it isn't an option for him with his arm strength. Man, stop making excuses for the obvious. If it's an ugly baby, call it an ugly baby.
