The Dolphins have begun giving Jason Allen snaps at cornerback again.

Allen proved before that he isn't a corner, but Miami needs versatility from him now that he's a backup. So far, he's been the No. 1 bust of a highly successful 2006 first-round draft class, with Matt Leinart possibly second.

Saban apparently didn't really know his DB. Allen was horrible from day one and now is an official backup in this league. The guy is London Fletcher all over, in a draft that was full of Talent.

Saban was a bust. Please move on from that era.

OH NO rotoworld called him a bust. Look coach Sparano said he will play alot he will be tired on Sunday night. Just because he isnt starting does not mean he can be a dynamic game changer i mean Hester did and he was only on the field for like 7 plays a game. He can play corner/saftey and can be a big time guy on Special teams. He will may plays he is just to athletic not to. I think this staff has made a few choices Roth as a LB and he is playing well and im sure not starting him means he isnt the best saftey but he can be the most dynamic player.

Paul Pasqualoni praised Jason Allen highly during his press conference yesterday . It's on the team website.

It wouldn't be so bad if like you said... there wasn't SO much talent on the board.
Normally I hate it when people bring up woulda coulda shouolda scenarios... but this one I'll let slide, because I remember a LOT of people pulling for Cromartie... he fell into our laps, and we passed. I myself was pulling for Greenway (being a Hawkeye fan)... I know hindsight is 20/20 and all... but I remember reading these boards way back then and I know the overwhelming majority did NOT want Allen... yeesh.

16. Miami - Jason Allen DB Tennessee
17. Minnesota - Chad Greenway, LB Iowa
19. San Diego - Antonio Cromartie, CB Florida State
20. Kansas City - Tamba Hali, DE Penn State
25. Pittsburgh (from N.Y. Giants) - Santonio Holmes, WR Ohio State

I sure hope he does something to prove he was worth the pick... but yeah, it's not looking so hot for him.

Did you mean Jamar Fletcher who was playing in the league until last year I beleive. Just because a guy is picked in the first round does not make him a bust if does not start. Jason Allen was picked in the middle of the first round. Every couple of years the first round gets longer as we add more teams. So now a guy who might have been a second rounder is a first rounder and is suddenly a bust becasue he is not starting right away because the media says so. Phillip Merling is not starting (who was suppose to be a first rounder) but Langford is does that make Merling a bust? Same thing about Murphy I have heard some label him a bust becasue he was picked in the 4th round and Donald Thomas who is starting was a 6th round pick. Murphy is still on the team was a guard/tackle coming out of college and probably has more range than Thomas just not the physical strength. Our defensive back coach Paul P just had an article in todays paper how much he like Jason Allen and how luck the Dolphins are to have Jason Allen. Paul P has been around much longer in this business than you or I so he should know busts more than most in this forum. What he said in a nutshell is Jason Allen has better tools physically (which is what you look for in a 1st round pick) but needs to spend more time in the film room. I beleive Allen and Hagan both came in the same draft and I will say this that was a "terrible" time to be picked as a Miami Dolphin. Saban left town that year after a horrible season, last year was Cameron who was a joke and this year yet another coaching staff. I like this yers coaching staff and I beleive we will see much more of the potential of the Allen or Hagan or if they are the failures you claim they are they will be cut.

How many of the 2006 first round picks after Allen would you not rather have? Just because he is a contributor, does not mean he is not a disappointment. He may not be a complete bust, but he was definitely a bad pick at that position. Falling so far short of expectations puts you in the bust discussion.

17 Minnesota Chad Greenway - LB 18 Dallas Bobby Carpenter - LB 19 San Diego Antonio Cromartie 20 Kansas City Tamba Hali - DE 21 New England Laurence Maroney - RB 22 San Francisco Manny Lawson - DE 23 Tampa Bay Davin Joseph - OG 24 Cincinnati Johnathan Joseph 25 Pittsburgh Santonio Holmes - WR 26 Buffalo John McCargo - DT 27 Carolina DeAngelo Williams - RB 28 Jacksonville Marcedes Lewis - TE 29 New York Nick Mangold - C 30 Indianapolis Joseph Addai - RB 31 Seattle Kelly Jennings 32 New York Mathias Kiwanuka - DE

Take it easy. Jason Allen will do just fine. He is not a hitter. Hes a guy who moves well in space and is highly versatile. He is a finesse player and that does not really match Sporano and co modus operandi but they kept him because he is NFL material - a good player in fact.

By the way you meant Jamar Fletcher not London Fletcher I believe.

And that said Jamar Fletcher again was not a bust, a poor pick by Dumbstadt because he did not fit into the Dolphins cover schemes but he has been in the league many years proving he is an NFL player provided he is in the right system.

At the time, I don't know who I woulda picked. I didn't really look into players into this last year. But based on now, I would have picked 4 or 5 players that got selected after him, instead of him. Kiwanuka, Addai, Lewis, Williams, or Holmes. But thats just me.

Yea that about right for me too so that means I beleive Jason was picked 17th in that draft so the next about 10 players after him were busts too. How many players were busts drafted in front of him. So 2/3rd of fist round picks are busts. I am not buying that most are still on teams I bet and if they are in the NFL after 3-4 years on the team that drafted them I would not label them busts. Not living up to "some" fans expectations maybe!

I think you would have to add Antonio Cromartie to that list as well. I would also argue Nick Mangold and Laurence Maroney have played more prominent roles on their teams than Allen has with us.

I agree that he is a disappointment, but calling him a bust is an overreaction. He was not a top 10 pick. At number 16, he is contributing. Further, the front office and Sparano love him because of his "roster flexibility". The importance of this cannot be understated.

Wow.. there was gold toward the end of that round. I forget, did we try to trade down that draft?
