So here we are,
It's been nine long months. Nine months in which we've suffered as the leagues laughing stock. Nine month's in which the Dolphins darkest hour has loomed over us all as fans. Nine months in which we've all undoubtedly had many questions pop into our mind like "When is this franchise going to get back on track". Today is the day we answer those questions. Today is the day that we begin our journey on the road BACK TO RESPECTABILITY. What better way to start that Journey then by opening the season against an over hyped division rival and punching them RIGHT IN THE JAW.
Most of us know that this team, no matter how poor last seasons team was, will be a team that we can all be proud of. Whether they win five games this year, or somehow end up contending for the playoffs, we know that this team is a team with a bright future. A team that is led by a tough coach and management with a desire to win. Many experts do not agree with this, many experts think this is the same old Dolphins team that has lost nineteen of it's last twenty games and is sure to allow it's futility to continue. But we all know that analysis is wrong. Not just because of what we've seen so far on the field, or in the draft, or in free agency, but because of what we can feel in our blood. This team is going to make us proud to be Dolphins fans again.
Of course it isn't all about winning. If this team does end up going 5-11 i guarantee we will still have that sense of pride. Pride in knowing that they've turned the corner, pride in knowing that they're on their way, that the rebuilding effort is going well and that the front office and ownership finally has pushed the right buttons and has given us a ray of hope. My friends this season will not end with us all wondering "how could this happen, how could we get any worse, where are we going to go from here, what's going to happen". No no no. This season is going to end with a bright future shining down on all of us. Hope restored. Faith rewarded. Even in losing.....That's the big difference. 5-11 on the way up is VASTLY different than 6-10 on the way down. With all hope lost.
Though there will be speed bumps on the way. This team is not going to be a Cinderella story who magically turns from poor to royalty over night. They are going to lose some games this season, they are going to get roughed up. But this team is going to show toughness and character unlike any Dolphins team in recent years, and prove to us by getting back up that WE HAVE HOPE.
Finally though, since today is the season opener against the hated rivals from the North. Lets open it with a bang. Lets get a win. Lets crush THEIR hopes. Lets remember the last game we played against them when they bullied us and channel it into anger that makes us hit and play hard enough to WIN THIS GAME BIG. Lets win this game for the fans, who've stuck by the team over thirty years of frustration including this horrendous recent stretch unlike no other. Lets win this game for those who are no longer with us but will smile down upon Dolphin stadium as the scoreboard tells the story of a Dolphin victory come 4pm today. Lets win this game for the doubters, who flirt with forgetting about this team altogether. Restore some excitement and life into this franchise! Fuel the fire once more! RENEW PASSION AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WIN THIS WAR AND DESTROY THE JETS!!!!!!!!!
