The innocence of sports is officially over. When the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers and the Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings go head to head next Monday night, Monday Night Football, for the first time, will not be on free television, during the regular NFL season. What is next? When will the Superbowl be on pay-per-view television?

I think it is appalling that Monday Night Football has moved to the ESPN channel. Since 1970, many of us have religiously watched the program. Now that Monday Night Football has moved to cable television, some people will not be able to watch. Everyone cannot afford cable, or maybe, ESPN is not available in their area. Regardless of the reason, this is a bad PR move by the NFL. I know money is behind the change; however, you probably need to read between the lines.

Basically Mon Night Football is now Sun Night Football as the better matchups will be on sun Night so the better games are still "free".

it's un-American to not have cable or satellite.

Well its Un-American to pay 3 dollars for gas also . . . and maybe this causes alot of people to cut some expenses like cable for instance. I think its a horrible idea to have Monday Night Football on ESPN. Even if the so called matchups are better on Sundays . . . I hardly ever watch Sunday night football on ESPN, but always watched Monday Night Football on ABC . . . not that it has anything to do with cable or not, just the fact that on Monday Nights I enjoy watching football . . . and I'm pretty sure there are people out there w/o cable who feel the same way now. Don't care if its the 2 best teams in the league playing every Sunday . . . its still IMO wont compare to the excitement of playing the only game of the day on Monday night on national TV for all.

I bowl on Monday nights, and the game is on there, but it's difficult to pay close attention to the game and keep my ball rolling properly. I'm glad the better games are on Sunday Night now.

Comparing MNF on ESPN to the Super Bowl on PPV?? Please...........

And, IMO....MNF on ESPN is far less offensive than putting games on NFL Network. ESPN is available throughout the nation on basic cable. However the NFL Network is still not available in a large portion of the country.....even to those willing/able to pay for it.

I don't understand the griping,...

The Sunday Night game is FREE and the matchups are stelllar and with the flex schedule the late season match ups will be better then anything MNF has ever offered. I think this is a case of people lookiong for a reason to gripe. ESPN paid big money for ther rights to MNF, they have the right to do whatever they want with it....

If you don't have cable go to the local watering hole and watch the game or go to a friends and watch it there.

This is just the beginning. There will be a time, I'm thinking in the next decade that EVERY sporting event will be pay per view of some sort.

The NFL has been pay per view for me for 10+ years....it's called Sunday Ticket and for out of market Dolphin fans it's the only way to see them every week.

....and that will be when I give up watching sports all-together. If even just for the simple fact that WE SHOULDNT HAVE TO PAY PER VIEW for a weekly event, I will resign to reading the newspaper or looking on the internet to what my team did...:shakeno:, Rupert and the rest of the zillionaires can all take a big bite here--->:moon:

Yep, if we go to the stadium . . . we get hit with 30 dollar parking and 7 dollar hot dogs and 10 dollar beers . . . now to watch it on TV we are forced to have cable . . . and eventually pay to watch the super bowl . . . are u kidding me. Its not a factor for me because I keep cable . . . but its just principle that Monday Night Football . . is not on local television. And like I said, maybe this Sunday Night Football will provide better matchups . . . but ain't nuthin like watching/playing football on Monday night being the only teams to play for the day in front of a nationally televised audience.
