I knew what Sage was so I never really pushed for him much.. And the Coaching Staff was aware of this too..

As evidenced by yesterday's performance, the team just functions much better with Gus in there instead of Sage.

Sage is a goner.. I dont really care for Gus much, but I wouldnt mind keeping him around as a tutor for a young QB we bring in.

I agree. I think Saban and Company keep him around as a tutor for next year.

I also love the fact that Frerotte is a real team player who wants nothing except the success of the team. He's got heart.

This post is right on the money, gus is not an above average qb but he is our best option right now and his understanding of the new offensive system makes him a fine tutor for the qb we bring in. I just wonder, since gus came here to "start" would he be inclined to retire once the next guy is brought in, and does it realy matter, lienahan (sp) could teach the system just fine?! Either way, it is about time people realize that gus's play has been adequate at times and that he should not be thrown out with the trash, there is use for him around here.

I agree. But I'm still glad we found out for sure.

The coaches already knew........but pressure from the media and fans made them try it anyway.....and it BOMBED!!!

Maybe next time the fans and media should just trust the coaching staff. ;)

Exactly, the coaching staff was already sure.

First off they didn't TRY anything. Gus got injured and was not able to practice even on a partial basis until FRIDAY. He was all set to be the THIRD string QB that day except his finger showed up that day better than normal.

Don't confuse an injury situation with Saban bowing to pressure from anyone.

Second, coaches can never know something for sure until they see him in the live fire situation. Even a coach will tell you that. I know Randy Mueller would tell you the same thing, since he's already made statements to that effect about situations he has faced in Seattle. The Jets coaching staff KNEW that Chad Pennington was too "cerebral" and didn't really deserve to start over Vinny Testeverde...until Vinny stunk up the joint in very "Frerotte-like" fashion to where they had to make some kind of move just to get by. Chad went in and played amazingly. Evidently what they "knew" was dead false.

I disagree. It depends on how close the QB is to being ready. If a guy has a good feel for the O, he may or may not shine, but if thye QB is lost in practice, can't read a D, throws to the wrong rec., etc. He's not going to come in and play amazing. Based on the half he played Sage doesn't have a feel for the O. He doesn't read a D, but just seems to go with the play from memory. If he was doing that in practice (very likely) then the coaches would know he wasn't ready.

I agree that they didn't try anything. Fortunately, injury forced their hand and it finally ended all the posts calling to "give him a shot" based on little to no info about Sage.

Adequate? I realize I am in the minority here, but I think Gus has played very well this year. I have been very impressed with his decision making throughout the season. The Int against Atlanta was not his fault (defender made a great play, and they should not have been passing anyway), and the one against NE was not terrible. he had bad numbers against Cleveland, but that was in mop up work.
I don't think it is fair or accurate to blame the Phins' poor record on Gus. He has managed the game very well. He has had very little help from his receivers(Chambers has dropped far too many balls-on that note, I wish he would just play the game instead of flapping his right hand after every play calling for a flag). Is he a great QB? No, but I think he deserves a lot more credit than he has been given. The Dolphins can definitely win games with Gus at the helm.

sage is a bum and always has been....he did exactly what i knew he would do...less than nothing

just like last year.....when he got his start

i roflmao at the fans that were screaming about sage being the best QB on the rost for the last 3 years....don't take any offense one of my closest family members was the loudest about it....i'd just chuckle at him....its funny now he is saying "well gus is really not that bad...heck i like the guy" ROFL

im all like ....'duh, i coulda told you that prior to sages start but u wouldn't have believed me'

lol @ all of u

Gus faced the Raiders secondary last week. This week its the Buffalo secondary. Something tells me next monday this sight will have the bench gus threads back in full force. as for sage or cleo. Backups need three weeks of starting before you can evaluate them. That's about the amount of time they need to get comfortable with the offensive personnell. To believe Sage is actually as bad as he looked against the Browns is to not understand the game. I personally don't think he's a starting qb but he is better then he showed.

Well i believe the change in play calling helped alot as well.... Linehan on the sidelines I'm sure payed dividens with the feeback aspect of playcalling. This whole new FTS thing will likely be carried on with simple yet effective plays that get the ball to the guy paid to make plays.

If Sage looked like that in practice he would not be our primary backup QB for very long. They would not have gotten rid of AJ Feeley.
