With some posters implying Tannehill needs to put the team on his back and win the game in the 4th quarter, I went back to look at the play by play so I could base an opinion for myself... Mostly because I'm usually drunk by the 4th especially when we play at 4PM, and I have no interest whatsoever 8n watching that **** show again...

On the first possesion... Tannehill throws to Landry for a first down on 2nd down. James gets a holding penalty on the very next play... drive goes down the toilet-> punt

2nd possesion...Tannehill throws to Landry for a first down again, gets sacked for a 8 yards loss on the very next play, delay of game follows and they're looking at 2-23.Tannehill throws for 17 yards to Matthews.3-6. Landry drops the 1st down pass-> punt

3rd possesion... Tannehill throws for 9 yards to Matthews. 2-1. Holding penalty FML right? Drive down the ****ter and they even manage to get a holding penalty on the punt

4th possesion...Tannehill sacked on the very first play...-> punt
5th possesion... this is desperation with 40 seconds left...

So is the QB the problem here in your opinion?

You make some good points but sometimes the franchise qb has to overcome adversity to win games. Yes the OL is **** but where is the pocket awareness? Tannehill puts out good numbers especially in the first 3 quarters but when the pressure is on he crumbles. This has been going on for 4 years now, he's lacking that intangible, that killer instinct to put teams away when it's a tight ballgame in the 4th quarter. I'm not only putting the blame on the qb for the teams shortcomings, of course the OL, some players on D and the coaching staff deserve plenty of blame as well. Here's hoping for all around improvement starting this Sunday- cheers

Absolutely and Tannehill will likely never be that type of QB that can overcome his teammates failures. Honestly, there are very few players that actually can. One of the things that really helps with perspective and directly answering your question in regard to awarenessis this.

When have you ever watched Brady or Manning evade a missed block by the LT etc and still chuck it down field for a huge play?

The easy answer is they rarely do because they don't have to. Their teammates unlike ours knows it's crunch time and they need to step up with their QB..period! Nobody drops crucial balls(At you Landry), No holding calls(At your James), no getting beat on the O-line(At you Fox)

It just doesn't happen. Now, of course it helps if that QB understands the situation. Meaning, if your Tannehill you likely can't hold on to the ball waiting for something deep to develop. You have to know Landry is out on the boundry with no defender in sight..10-15 yards out. Playing the deep pass etc.

I will say this..in those situation especially Tannehill needs to DEMAND better of his teammates. He needs to tell Landry no more drops, He needs to tell James no more holding, He needs to tell Fox get your crap together and ofcourse he needs to tell himself cut out the non-sense. I don't think at this stage his teammates FEAR letting him down. Players make plays and cut out mistakes for those big name QBs because they FEAR disappointing them.

But where's the pocket?

A team is as strong as its weakest link.
When coaching and talent can't hide that link get ready for a long season.

He had his worst game, virtually non existent in the 4th.

Not specifically related to last week's game, but I've felt that the great QB's that throw deep are often the beneficiary of PI calls which set up easy touchdowns. The Dolphins never do this, and I'm wondering whether doing so should be an integral part of the offensive game plan.

Conversely, suppose you have a team backed up so that they are facing 3rd and very long inside their own 10. Is it better for that team to run or throw short underneath and gain some field position before punting? Or should that team throw deep reasoning that occasionally their offense will be bailed out by a defensive penalty (illegal contact, holding, PI) that results in a 1st down?

This is another added value of a receiver like Parker and I wonder if Lazor's play calling will exploit this as he is integrated into the offense.

It's just too difficult to continue to rely on sustaining long, 10+ play drives without penalties or sacks derailing the scoring opportunity.

What you are missing is that he has overcome adversity just to keep them in the game. At some point, the players need to perform. The late sack allowed by Fox is a great example. He just can't whiff on that block. He can't. No excuse. Block your man. Period. Asking the QB to sprout eyes in the back of his head and levitate to avoid the sack is ridiculous. BLOCK THE DEFENDER or get the F**k off the field. How about running the damn ball from there?

Tannehill is a system QB.

He is doing what they are asking him to do, run THEIR offense. Execute the plays that they send him.

I don't think he has ever been asked to go in and drive for a TD, or drive to win the game.

He isn't that type of QB. He isn't going to start making 40 yard completions consistently when all the pressure is on him, or getting out of bad plays when the game is on the line.

This is why we see many of those irritating short passes on 3rd down that are meaningless.

When you are backed up inside your 5yd line, that ball needs to come out quickly. Yes, Fox was beaten by Odrick, but it was an outside rush and RT had time for a quick throw. As he often does, he took too long to find a receiver. A short hopped throw to a covered hot receiver would have been the best option.
He has no pocket presence and a poor sense of game situations. At that point in the game you absolutely cannot take a sack and definitely not fumble.
Fox got beat , but he also scooped that ball out of the endzone to prevent a safety.

Bull****, block the DE. Hot receiver? A hot receiver is when a blitz is called. As usual, the Jags got quick pressure rushing 4. The only shorter route on that side of the field was Stoneburner. He is running a 7 yard pattern. Clearly he and Tannehill don't have timing down and Tannehill can't just chuck it. He has to trust his OL or they cannot run the offense. It is likely that he is reading the safety on that side of the field. If he covers the short throw, Tannehill has a WR on an in breaking route, otherwise he has the TE on the out at 7 yards. He has to read the safety. There is no hot read. If anything, question the play call.

IMO, 3 minutes to go in the game, all three timeouts, YOU HAVE TO RUN THE BALL.

LOL, who does make 40 yard completions consistently when all of the pressure is on them?

So Tannehill takes is at fault when his left tackle failed to even put a hand on the outside rusher. Ok gotcha. I doubt even the short routes were developed by the time Odrick got there

I'm so sick and tired of these threads. WE LOST CAUSE WE HAD TO MANY PENALTIES. All the players that had penalties lost it for us. Not Philbin, Not Tannehill. Can't beat any NFL team like that.

The OP killed it. Gunna need to start a **** list.
