Despite the fear that Ndamukong Suh’s contract (which was restructured) would be an albatross on Miami’s cap, the Dolphins will be in pretty good shape next offseason.

If the cap rises from $155 million to $160 million, the Dolphins would have $16 million in space, plus a large chunk of 2016 carryover space ($17 million, according to the players’ union) and the ability to clear out a lot more by cutting or restructuring Branden Albert ($10.6 million cap hit in 2017), Mario Williams ($10.5 million), ByronMaxwell ($8.5 million), Earl Mitchell ($4.5 million) and Isa Abdul-Quddus ($5 million), among others. They also could restructure Mike Pouncey ($8.9 million).

I hope Miami signs Jarvis Landry to a long-term contract. He's the one player that continued to play hard when the team struggled early in the season. I love his energy and passion and because of that he's currently my favorite player on the team.

It seems like the Dolphins turned the corner a bit in their team building philosophy this offseason and it will be interesting to see how that plays out. Looking at New England as a model, the Patriots haven't been afraid to cut bait with players when salaries get too high. Of course, having an elite quarterback makes that a little easier to swallow.

Will Miami have similar success? It was tough to see Vernon and Miller, in particular, leave. But it will be even more interesting to see where the team puts its money.

OMG Miko says disgusting things. I admit, last year I chose not to really pay attention to the conversation about her as I just wasn't that interested and figured it was being blown out of proportion. SMH at her comments.

We need to sign Jarvis now, not next year. He transcends just performance, he gives the team something to be proud of and excites the fanbase.

The Suh restructure was triggered to give them flexibility in contract negotiations . . . Knowing they could roll that space over. Now it did not help them resign OV or Lamar, but when negotiating you can only be taken serious if you show you have the available cap and flexibility to be a serious contender for that player's services.

Essentially we are rolling over Suh's restructure money . . . It's almost like it never happened.

In reading those comments by Jackson at the link it appears to me that he thinks Turner has the inside track at one of the starter spots which is what I figured although I believe they will exepct to see some growth and improvement from him before he cements it.

With Mitchell essentially being gone after this season that gives us around 37 million in projected cap space. As others have said we should sign Landry this year before he gets crazy expensive. Don't be surprised if Albert is here at least 2 more seasons.

I've said it time and time again, Dawn does her job better than most in the NFL.

She was portrayed poorly in Hard Knocks; but agreed...she's very, very good at her job.

We cannot re-sign Landry now. Rookie contracts cannot be touched until AFTER the 3rd year. End of 2016 season is the soonest we can work on an extension.

If Mitchell is still here week 1 this season, we probably didn't get as good as we should have on defense. His leaving would mean that Phillips and Jones improved the position/rotation....and saved us an additional $3.5M this year.

Keep in mind when they were recruiting Mario Williams, it was Earl Mitchell that was there with coaches trying to convince him to Miami. He along with Vance Joseph have experence with Mario from those Houston days and Vance could very well have plans to utilize Earl better than Kevin Coyle.

Plus the savings on the cap is only 2.5 million this season if you cut him.

I am not guaranting he will be on the roster, just pointing out that those youngsters can make strides, the new editions can help and Earl could still be on this team as a viable part of the rotation and a veteran leader in the lockerroom.

Next year when the savings are 4 million, I do not expect him here.

All valid points.

Well, that's true about the cap saving but Earl's not exactly a youngster. He's been in the league for 6 seasons and has never been more than a JAG. He played under Wade Phillips for 3 of those years and to what avail? Do you really expect a first time DC to get more out of him than Wade?

Personally I have higher hopes for Chris Jones who is still young and had 6 sacks as a rookie in 11 starts and 13 games. That's more that Mitchell in 6 years. I know there's more to it than sacks but a disruptive guy in the wide 9 looks pretty good to me.
