• The Dolphins’ over/under for wins is 7 ½ at 12 Nevada casinos and most are betting the under, an MGM Grand official said.
“Tough division, [they’re] better, but 8-8,” Fox’s Jimmy Johnson e-mailed.
• Here’s one problem running back Jay Ajayi (who was not taken by the Dolphins to Seattle) will have when he returns to good graces: Damien Williams will always be active because he’s great on special teams, and running backs coach Danny Barrett says Kenyan Drake will be “a special teams demon.”
So if those two, plus starter Arian Foster are active, that would have Ajayi competing with preseason sensation Isaiah Pead if Miami keeps a fourth back active. And because Ajayi doesn’t play special teams, Pead could get the nod if the Dolphins conclude he’s the better running back.

Yup. This is how you can be the #2 best HB on the team (though perhaps not by that large of a margin) and still be inactive.

Are we putting too much into special teams? I mean it's pretty much only punts and touchbacks now. Guys like Williams and pead aren't useful in fg blocking situations. They're gunners. I'm not sure that phase of the game is very useful anymore. Maybe we need to be more forward thinking there? Idk, just my 2 cents.

Field position is a real thing though.

Here's the thing on Ajayi, the team is not planning to trade him, or cut him. He is, however, going to be monitored to see how he reacts to being left behind in South Florida. His reaction to being benched as the starter in favor of Foster was not good.

Now Ajayi has to prove he's gotten the message and can be professional about his approach to being on the team. If not, he'll remain inactive.

By the way, there's the idea that Ajayi will find it hard to be active because he doesn't play special teams. While this is an issue, I'm told Ajayi's value as a backup to Foster would merit him being active if his attitude is right.

I can't believe Ajayi still didn't go with the team. Maybe Gase was testing whether he would actually go to support the team even though he wasn't going to play?
