### While the Dolphins remain interested in Evan Mathis, they haven’t reached out to the other talented veteran who has come on the market this week: John Moffitt.

Drafted in the third round by Seattle in 2011, Moffitt started 15 games in his first two seasons for the Seahawks, was traded to Denver and then retired in November 2013, saying he was unhappy and that he did not want to risk his health for money.

The 28-year-old Moffitt has overcome a drug issue, gotten his life back in order and came of retirement recently. Several teams reached out to his representation this week, but not the Dolphins as of Friday afternoon.

As for Mathis, the Dolphins remain interested, as we reported Tuesday. But as of the end of the offseason program this week, Miami hadn't made a formal offer.

The Dolphins don't want to be in a situation of bidding against themselves but they're monitoring the situation.

“One of the things that I've assured the teams that are interested in Evan is that I'm simply not going to identify who they are and talk about them because they have a set roster at this point," agent Drew Rosenhaus told WQAM today. "But there are 10 teams that have expressed bona fide interest in signing Evan.

"I can tell you that this deal will happen at any time or it may still take between now and training camp to get it done. There are several teams that are in the mix right now, and we don't want to discourage anybody from pursuing it in the event that there will be collateral damage if they don't get him."

### Dion Sims and Brandon Fields, at DJ Irie’s charity golf tournament today, spoke glowingly of Thursday’s Navy Seals Training experience that was put together by Joe Philbin but also said it was quite grueling.
There were training exercises in the Atlantic Ocean, another in which players held their hands behind their backs and kicked heavy logs, another in which they lifted logs and other difficult exercises that tested them physically and mentally over a three-hour period. When it was over, they all went their separate ways for the next six weeks.

This is what beat reporters are supposed to do. That's why I love Jackson. Always learn something from his notes that we wouldn't otherwise know.

I will be surpised if we sign Mathis to be honest like I thought from the beginning but we will hopefully know fairly soon.

Good to know muffitt is not a consideration and no thats not a typo

Why bring on a guy that was ehh to begin with and now has drug abuse issues to a place like south beach? when a guy says i dont love the game anymore thats when you erase his number

When those words come out that's all i need to hear

Well, actually, he HAD drug abuse problems which he spent the last couple of years dealing with. Your statemant says, and I quote "NOW HAS DRUG ABUSE ISSUES"... just pointing that out because you completely missed the point of his last few years out of the league in recovery. Doesn't mean he's a good fit, but as a family member of a recovering addict....your post was COMPLETELY RETARDED **** when trying to understand articles about former addicts apparently...

Well since he hasn't proven over any extended time that he doesn't have drug issues while he plays football that's still a valid concern.
I will say again he has proven he can stay clean while actually being a football player.

Isn't the saying, "once an addict, always an addict?" The meat and potatoes of his post was "when a guy says I don't love the game anymore" IMO. He's looking for a paycheck. We don't need to lead the league in supporting recovery projects...we have enough as it is.

Once an addict, always an addict? Who the f*** says that?

And to your point:

One of the ways this theory was first established is through rat experiments -- ones that were injected into the American psyche in the 1980s, in a famous advert by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America. You may remember it. The experiment is simple. Put a rat in a cage, alone, with two water bottles. One is just water. The other is water laced with heroin or cocaine. Almost every time you run this experiment, the rat will become obsessed with the drugged water, and keep coming back for more and more, until it kills itself.

The advert explains: "Only one drug is so addictive, nine out of ten laboratory rats will use it. And use it. And use it. Until dead. It's called cocaine. And it can do the same thing to you."

But in the 1970s, a professor of Psychology in Vancouver called Bruce Alexander noticed something odd about this experiment. The rat is put in the cage all alone. It has nothing to do but take the drugs. What would happen, he wondered, if we tried this differently? So Professor Alexander built Rat Park. It is a lush cage where the rats would have colored balls and the best rat-food and tunnels to scamper down and plenty of friends: everything a rat about town could want. What, Alexander wanted to know, will happen then?

from someone who is and was friends with a lot of addicts from highschool, they themselves will actually say that. believing you have "gotten over" your addiction, and are "cured" is exactly the type of mindset that enables a relapse and sends you back down the rabbit hole....

kinda like how even after 25 years of sobriety people introduce themselves as "hi, im ******, and I'm an alcoholic" in an AA meeting....the addiction doesn't just go away.

very rash to call someone as asshole for having a perspective that's actually accurate. now whether or not you choose to judge someone for being an addict? that's up to you.

Edit: man I always have a way of commenting on semi off topic discussions lol. At this point I'm accepting that we will likely go into the first game with our current guards.

Mmmmm. Are we sure bringing someone with a former drug problem to Miami is the right move? It's kinda been nice staying out of negative headlines for a while.

Probably and maybe Fox at LT.

You ask ANY addict and they'll tell you it's a life-long struggle to not slip back into the power of whatever it was they are/were addicted to. This is nothing new. I'm not saying the guy will run back to drugs, I'm just saying he'll have to struggle with it. Many addicts (and I've personally known SEVERAL), even clean after a few years, refer to themselves as an "addict."
