• The Dolphins, down to less than $17 million in cap space, are being hurt by $8.1 million in dead money cap charges, with Isa Abdul Quddus’ injury costing them $1.7 million cap hit (certainly not Miami’s fault) and Branden Albert $3.4 million.

• The Dolphins will continue their defensive tackle search in the coming week, and there are well over a dozen available who would fit in their preferred price range ($2 million-$3 million). That group includes Kendall Reyes, Paul Soliai, Jonathan Babineaux, Corbin Bryant, Tyrunn Walker, Cam Thomas, Vance Walker, Roy Miller, Tyson Jackson, Legar Douzable, Billy Winn, Tony McDaniel and Sen’Derrick Marks. Former Jacksonville starter Tyson Alualu, who can play defensive end or tackle, would be a logical option.

• Though the Dolphins would be OK if Jermon Bushrod and Ted Larsen are their starting guards, it was reiterated to me that Miami will be looking for a guard in the draft.

The uninspiring part about Grant and Carroo are above this part of the article... stuff were all aware of.

I knew we'd be looking for O-line in the draft. Glad to hear it from team sources.

Anyone know what happened with Alualu in Jacksonville? All I remember is what a home run that pick turned out for them, supposedly.

IAQ ended the 2015 season on IR as well with a shoulder injury (trying to lay a hit on Jay Cutler). It's certainly our fault, especially when we continually risk signing injured players. In recent memory, Grimes may be the only gamble that paid off.

Larsen should be adequate at RG. Bushrod better be for depth. I wouldn't mind a new center somehow either.

Good to hear we're still in the hunt for a rotational DT.

I saw someplace that we meet with a center but cant remember from which college, I will see if I can find that.

@AaronWilson_NFL
Vanderbilt center Barrett Gouger to meet with Miami Dolphins, according to a league source

Elfein or pocic in the third?!? Center/guard plug and play and great backup at center

I would be open to cam Thomas or alualu as a one year cheaply rental

“We’ve just got to keep bringing him along,” Gase said of Carroo. “When you’re trying to figure a guy out that’s not in your top three it’s not always as easy as you’d think. The longer I’d been around him the more we’ve kind of figured out how we need to use him. He’s done a good job trying to figure out his role on special teams and where he really fits in with those receivers. Our young guys have got to be ready to step up.”

Not a raving endorsement, but nothing bad either. Seems Gase was just saying it's hard to figure out how best to use a number 4 receiver who's a rookie and you don't have a book of knowledge to go by. Seemed to imply the coaching stay has a better grasp on Carroo now than they did early last year. It's not like the staff was saying negative things about Carroo's talent, work ethic or effort.

It is interesting that the staff didn't seem to know how to best use Carroo, yet they traded picks for him. You would think in order for you to have enough interest in a guy to go after him like they did that they would have a good idea about him going in. Only way around it would be if they're saying they thought Carroo was one thing and he turned out to be something else. That's not good news for the scouting department.

I'm glad we're not satisfied with our guard situation and we'll look into drafting a guard, but I still hope our top 2 picks go towards helping out our front seven.

They don't have to say much. Being that Caroo was inactive for a practice squad WR in the last 3 games of the season speaks for itself.

Scary to think they are satisfied with Bushrod and Larsen, but maybe that is only half-smoke... glad we are open to adding a player in the draft. Just don't skimp on defense. I'm on board with trading into the third or fourth for a guard (or center who can play guard, or a guy with tackle versatility, etc).

I'd rather our draft have a first, second, (traded for third/fourth) and comp third, then twhatever it ends up being in the late rounds. hopefully keep maybe one 5th. I suspect we mortgage future picks once again

But I'm sure we can nab someone from that DT list that can come in and help... what's the deal with all the ex-jags? Aluala? Odrick? Miller?

I would like to see the team sign Hankins. I know it would be more than $2-3 million, but the contract could be structured over a three or four year period. He might end up around $7 million a year, but I think would be the perfect complement to Suh and allow Phillips to rotate in.

The fact that Miami didn't sign a top guard, is okay with me as long as that position is prioritized in the draft. With the current guards on the roster, the Dolphins have to spend a high pick. My guess would be second round, where I think the value will be for the position. If, for some reason, Lamp is there at #22 that would have to be considered.

At 24, Hankins is in the market for $10M (might settle for $8 should interst decline). Spending that kind of money for a rotational, albeit probably starting DT, is best reserved for those seeking some final pieces to reach the big game. And even though a run stuffing DT sounds ideal, vertical pressure is the main priority for our front 4 since we don't have pass rushing LBs nor blitz them at a frequent rate to justify it.

Shocker this one eh? Like we said before ... everyone knows we're not done at guard. We definitely need 1 or 2 more, with 1 almost certainly being a draft pick. I guess it was so obvious that not even a single team bought the propaganda the Dolphins were feeding the media, so they fixed their story. Oh well, I hope we find a good guard.

I think you're making an assumption and just completely running with it in regards to the staff not knowing how to use Carroo. Not saying you're wrong, but it's only one possible reason why his snap count was low. Another very logical possibility was that they weren't going to sit Landry or Parker for him so the only other guy who he could steal snaps from, Stills, had a breakout year.

I have asked this 100x this offseason to all the complainers - who was he going to steal snaps from last year and why?

No one. That's why it was a complete waste of 3 draft picks. Mistaken and erroneous calculation by the staff.

You and I have gone over this over and over... yeah, and if Stills didn't breakout last season and was not on the roster going into 2017? Carroo would be our #3 WR with lofty expectations. It's really easy to criticize the decision NOW.

Every season there are tons of draft picks and roster moves made that are worse than the Caroo pick, move on.
