.The Dolphins have been very pleased with linebacker Kiko Alonso and current sentiment would to re-sign him and upgrade over Jelani Jenkins and replace injured Koa Misi.

The hope, from their standpoint, is that Alonso doesn’t get an uncomfortably high offer in restricted free agency next spring.

• Dion Jordan told me his second knee injury resulted from “trying to too hard to come back too soon,” and that even though he’s certain he will play this season, he has no idea when. Under contract for 2017, Jordan loves Vance Joseph’s attacking defense and believes he can help as a 275-pound defensive end, with linebacker no longer an option at this weight.”

I would prefer a better MLB but college is just not producing good MLBs anymore.

I've noticed Jenkins play time has been reduced and Hewitt getting more PT. Seemed pretty obvious they're ready to move on from Jenkins. Moving on from Misi seems like a necessity due to his constant injury history.

Agreed. I was hopeful that maybe Jordan could replace Misi but sounds like he's destined for the d-line now. If we could get a true bad ass mlb, Kiko could easily slide in as the weak side lb. butler actually hasn't been awful so far filling in for Misi

Maybe it's because people wanted to hate on Tannenbaum and Maxwell (for valid reasons) but Jenkins IMO had been rather awful so far this year (Misi not much better when healthy) and felt that both had consistently missed their assignments or got lost in coverage (Jenkins consistently was in position to make plays against the Pats but he would be flat footed or not get his head around)

Shame Howards not close to returning. Jordan probably gets no defensive snaps this year who knows what they do with him after that.

Butler is playing well but not a guy I would trust at this point. He got his big pay day and then proceeded to suck...he's a guy you have to keep that carrot dangling in front of cause once he gets paid his effort goes down. With all that said I would bring him back at the right price...but still look for some depth behind him and a possible successor...a rookie or undrafted free agent (which we have a lot of already at linebacker).

Happy to hear they finally got the memo about Misi's injury bug. It's been a running joke on here forever.

I think the highest compliment I can give Gase is that there aren't many running jokes on here with players anymore because they are all getting sniffed out. Our O-line disappointments were cut, Misi likely just had his last injury, Cameron's a goner after this year when he proved unable to catch a cold...I guess Maxwell is the last one of his breed (that being players who we all want cut). The Jets game will be a big one for Maxwell because lord knows he is going to have his hands full with Marshall.

Going to have to get to Fitz and cause mistakes otherwise we wont have any answer for Marshall.

Great news for my son....he's 5'11, 150 (13 years old) and plays SAM for his 8th grade team...he's long, can hit, and can cover but doesn't (and probably never will) have the girth of a true MLB. Things are changing, LB's have to be able to move. Thumpers look cool and are still great to have, but there just don't seem to be that many around anymore...at any level.

Kiko has done a great job, however, I would like to see more turnovers generated. Jelani had a nice run, but he just doesn't have it. Maybe the injuries have done him in.

Koa is done.

Butler has done a nice job out there for us, he looks the part.

The Howard news is the story to me. Forget about Jordan anything he can give is gravy. But was hoping Howard would return soon the defense could really use him.

since he is a RFA aren't we able to set the tender offer for him? we can put a 1st round tender on Alonso for $2.9m which is nothing for a starting MLB and no team would give us a 1st rounder for him. i don't understand where Jackson is getting this notion at.

I thought it was a little strange also he said that, we basically hold all the cards, I guess he means they want to keep him on the real cheap.

This is a good draft to get a middle linebacker with Reuben Foster, Raekwon McMillan and Kendell Beckwith leading the way. McMillan could end up at strong side. Miami should draft two linebackers early IMO.

The 2015 numbers for a RFA are below. Not sure what those numbers will be in 2017 but I would expect them to be higher.

There are four tiers for the qualifying offers that can be tendered this offseason, according to a person with knowledge of the figures the NFL has set for those offers. All are for one-year contracts, and all compensation noted below would be for this year's draft:

1. Right of first refusal only: A deal in the amount of $1.542 million, with no compensation if the current club opts not to match another team's offer. This is typically (though not always, as we'll see in a bit) extended to players who were undrafted free agents.

2. Right of first refusal plus compensation (lowest tier): A deal in the amount of $1.542 million, plus a draft pick equal to the player's original draft round in return if the current club opts not to match another team's offer.

3. Right of first refusal plus compensation (middle tier): A deal in the amount of $2.356 million, plus a second round draft pick in return if the current club opts not to match another team's offer.

4. Right of first refusal plus compensation (highest tier): A deal in the amount of $3.354 million, plus a first-round draft pick in return if the current club opts not to match another team's offer.

I see DE as a bigger need though...We also need at least one OG in this draft cause I'm expecting the Dolphins to cut Albert and kick Tunsil out to LT...that leaves a gapping hole at LG. There's also the possibility Bushrod retires (since he was about to last year before Gase called him up) and leaves us without a RG as well.

LB absolutely needs to be addressed but if we get the chance at a game changing DE we have to take him. Hopefully one of those guys are there in the 2nd round.
