### We hear the Dolphins’ decision to sign defensive tackle C.J. Mosleywasn’t an indictment on second-round pick Jordan Phillips, but more so, borne out of concern about the young players behind Phillips. (A.J. Francis and Anthony Johnson are now competing for the fifth tackle job.) Ndamukong Suh is close with Mosley and was very much in favor of Miami signing him.

### The Dolphins gave Mosley just over $1 million for this season, leaving them with a shade under $9 million in cap space. With regard to discussions on Evan Mathis, keep in mind that the Dolphins want to enter the season with several million dollars in cap space.

### One player criticism of Joe Philbin over the years has been his lack of fire and emotion. So this wasn’t surprising: When USA Today asked Mike Wallace about transitioning from Philbin to Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, Wallace said:
“Oh my God — I love it, man. I love it. I love it. Honestly, [Zimmer]'s more of my type of guy — fired up. It's cool when you do things and just do them. But when you do them and have some fire with it, it's a lot more fun. I think it's more of an environment for me, coming from [Steelers] coach [Mike] Tomlin being fired up and going to Coach Philbin, who was a lot more reserved, then coming back to another coach who's fired up. I love it.”

Why can't people leave Mike Wallace alone. Idc about the guy anymore he is gone and it is petty to hang on every word he says. Im glad he is gone now lets act like it

it will be interesting to see if Mathis gets more or less than he would have been paid by the Eagles. it may end up being a pay cut

That may be true, but sometimes it's not about the money. If he's managed his money well, Mathis is already a very rich guy. If you hate going to work every day because you don't like your boss, it might be worth taking a cut in pay in exchange for an increase in happiness. I'm not saying he'll play for peanuts, but I don't necessarily see accepting a contract for less money than he'd have gotten as a losing situation for him.

It's been a strange offseason in Philly, Kelly may have already lost his locker room.

They can play with numbers.. Give him some money up front and make his contract cap-friendly

IMO that cannot be done. He walked out on $5.5M this year, and we have $9M in cap space. Don't want to give him a long term deal because of age, and can't imagine giving him deferred guaranteed money for next year when we have more than enough going on.

I agree. Our long term plans need to involve youth, not older vets, especially at a position like guard which is very low on the list of positions for which we should pay a premium. I understand people want to fill the hole with a talented player, but Mathis isn't the difference between us being an average team and a great team this year, so I'm not feeling any sense of urgency regarding the guard position. Address it in next year's draft with a 2nd or 3rd round pick (our 1st needs to be a corner, imo).

Bro let me start by saying I never wish injury upon any player, however perhaps Drew and Evan are waiting to see what happens in camps to see if a player gets hurt driving his value and price up further.

Zim has never really struck me as fhe fired up type, I feel like Wallace is just looking for a way to throw dirt at Miami.

If anyone was willing to pay Mathis what he was making in Philly they could have had him for a mid to late round pick.

I can't imagine he ends up getting more than the number he was unhappy with in Philly.

Rosenhaus will probably get him a deal that looks like a raise but is not.

I would take him in Miami in a second but only with a Cap friendly deal.

I agree. It's hard to understand why team players like Mathias and Kendricks are not being taken care of. That is strange. In Mathias case he is an older player, but Kendricks hasn't been in the league that long. Also, trading away a top running back was odd.

Kelly seems like a great coach, it's just hard right now to see exactly what his plan is.

you guys are something else, in one breath you say the fins need a guard and you hate Dallas Thomas, but when one comes along all of a sudden Dallas Thomas isn't so bad? what in the bleep do ya'll want?

Kelly is going to fall on his sword. trying to re-invent football in the NFL

Thats not at all now I interpret the comments on Mathis. You present the issue as a false choice, as if not wanting to pay a premium for an older veteran is the same not wanting to upgrade the position.
