Jackson's Sunday buzz- interesting tidbits

Do we still have that corner we got from San Franciscos practice squad. The one that won us the game against the patriots on the last drive of the game?

Yes, Michael Thomas. They actually have him at safety though.

but....., you dont explain.

we upgraded solie's spot with mitchell who is every bit the run stuffer solie is/was and is a WAY better pass rusher. in fact, solie was in decline from previous years, maybe its the fact he is a 3-4 nose tackle and not a 4-3 DT. i dont miss him.

AND EVERYONE WHINING ABOUT "BIG PAUL" AND THE DISAPPEARANCE OF THE RUN GAME and who is going to stop it now, etc.... .

IF YOUR TEAM ONLY HAS ONE GUY to depend on to get a job done [outside the qb] you dont have much of a team. and there were MANY different reasons the run game was up and down and LITTLE of it had to do with solie. i foresee NO decline unless there are mass in juries, especially at db and lb.

Can't really decline any further at LB, unless maybe Misi is injured. As for DB, we went from solid players in Carroll and Clemons to a guy who hasn't been good in about three years and an injury prone safety. Those two are certainly declines. Our DBs have way more question marks than last year, which to me is a decline. Have to rely on hope that the rookies (this year's and last year's) step up.

Db is easily the biggest question mark, but if Coyle has shown one thing it's that he knows how to get the most out of his secondary.

As far UDFA goes, Johnson and Damien Williams excite me the most. Damien is physically built as well as any rb in the NFL, if he can just get his head together and improve his vision he could be really productive for us, and I love the way he always delivers a hit at the end of runs the way Ricky Williams use to.

The defensive backfield should be the least of our worries. The best DB coach in the league is our D coordinator. They'll be fine.

Linebackers... Now that's a bigger issue.

Not even close to being true. Many of the things Paul did doesn't show up on the stat sheet, but make no mistake he will be missed. Mitchell is no where near the player Big Paul was and it will show.

Our defense will be fine... The middle will be really good this year. We have 2 beast Mitchell and Starks. Wheeler and Elerbe should be a bit better in their 2nd year of this Miami system.

Some things Soliai did better but some things Mitchell does better. Soliai could take 2 lineman out, but he was hardly on the field and was taken out of plays when he was tired(all the time).. Mitchell will be there way more and we'll be able to bring fresh guys in to attack the lineman a lot more this year. I expect an improved Dline.

I'm going the opposite way on this one.

The Dolphins need to be following the NY Giants formula for winning the SB a couple of years ago when that front four of theres went wild in the playoffs. Its all about creating pressure and knocking Brady bunch to the ground.

To Brady's credit he's smart. He has every intention of extending his career and he cannot stand to get hit. He gets rid of it or goes down first instead of taking the wallop. The Dolphins have a chance to be a top sacking machine defense if we hit on one or more of our free agents and or Fede on our defensive front line...

I have a bad feeling our defense will implode this season...

Sorry, I hate "but ifs." I only go by what I know for sure, and that is that Finnegan has been **** and injured for 3 years, Delmas has been mediocre at best when not injured, which is rare, and Davis/Taylor didn't look great in the small amount of time they weren't injured. See one word in there that kept popping up? Not a great sign. I certainly hope Coyle and Co. can get something out of this bunch, but I'm definitely not going to count on it. Good teams limit their "but ifs."

On this team, how many players can you point to as something you know for sure? I'm thinking maybe a handful.

The secondary is a big question with a lot of unproven or questionable guys there, to boot, our 2 starters are basically midgets. I love grimes, but those guys are real short. Physical receivers like Sammy Watkins will eat our lunch. And we don't have depth there, unless the 2nd year players develop.

The run defense will be an issue without a big body in there.

The LB corps wasn't addressed and could be an issue. And the safety spot isn't all that hot. The ONLY position on D without questions is the pass rush.

With so many questions on D, it is a cause for conxern

I normally agree with you but calling Delmas mediocre at best is laughable.
When healthy is a very good Safety
