Looking at all the talent on that Jacksonville D-Line I would say there is an argument for them being top 5 in the NFL. With that in mind how much harder will they come for our O-Line?

They did struggle but the question is did they play well enough against their starters to win?

If the majority of games will be easier for them and they’ll gain more experience each game maybe by the end of the season they’ll be serviceable.

we were missing our best player on the line, so it's a little unfair to judge on that game, but I think we are in for a long season behind this line.

If the starting 5 stays healthy I think we have a passable group who will be below average but not so terrible to make the offense anemic like its been recently. The issue is we're one injury away from very bad, and one Tunsil injury away from worst in the league.

Jacksonville has a lot of veterans. Veterans just go through the motions in preseason. I suspect we'll see a defense that is nothing like the ferocity of the regular season Jax defense. While our OL will not be up to regular season level yet either, we'll definitely be trying harder than Jacksonville's defense. Because aside from Tunsil, everyone on our OL has a lot to prove and nobody on that Jacksonville defense really has anything to prove.

Interesting take. I think Allen player hard though and I still think our Guards would still learn. Considering talent level and experience even if the other team isn’t trying 100% we couldn’t really expect anything better. I thought we would struggle more in pass pro but running game looked like the biggest challenge to me.

That was the Jags starters first reps of the season, they were chomping at the bit, and imo are the most talented line in the game..

We couldn’t run block but I thought we competed with our rag tag bunch..

I’ve been saying since the draft I don’t think Calhoun is a starter and all these preseasons games I still don’t see signs, but the line competed against the best in the game without their best player.

We also won the game handidly

The starting o line actually played ok. Most of the pressure from Josh Allan came because of poor blocking from the TEs.

I may be in the minority, but this O-line will be serviceable barring injuries. They don't seem to commit as many pre-snap penalties or the constant holding calls. I think they will get better weekly. Hope Tunsil is not dinged up.

One thing I don't remember seeing in the last game is chip blocks or TE's AND an OT blocking pass rusher before the TE leaks out. I doubt a weak OT or TE will be left alone the entire game on a pass rusher in regular season

I agree that Jacksonville was the perfect preseason game. I finally got a chance to watch and evaluate the game. Their defense made our OL look horrible, but the problems were very enlightening. Calhoun had a very poor performance. It looks like he has not adjusted to the speed of the game. I expect that will calm down for him sometime during the first four games. Most of his mistakes are correctable. Have some hope that he will reach acceptable starter level play early in the season.

Deiter was on the ground a couple of times, but he is performing well enough to be considered a starter. There were a number of missed blocks by the TEs that really hurt the consistency. Poor TE play is not a new issue, so there really is no point discussing it. We can hope that the play level will improve.

Good point, Allen is a young'in, so he'll play hard … but that's about it.

This O-line will get tested every week. I'd like to think they'll get better as a unit as the season goes on if they continue to play together but the fact is we don't have a very good O-line once again. Will they get help during the regular season with the TE and RB? Sure but that leaves you with a two man route most of the time.
