Jaelan Phillips vs New England Patriots

I don't think Phillips speed is an issue. I think his weight/strength could be an issue. He scored lower in reps.

I think a big part of his development will be using his bend and speed to get around lineman. On tape, I saw he was going into the meat of the lineman. He's not going to win those battles.

I agree with you analysis brother. Like most rookies, he needs to gain strength. That will come.

His explosiveness was nice, and it was clear that the Patriots wanted him double-covered fairly often. Considering he was essentially playing DE opposite Ogbah, that's quite a complement.

Phillips will improve as the season progresses, but he's already flashing quite a bit. While he didn't get a sack, he's on the cusp of a lot of pressures. Once he gains experience and a bit of strength, he's going to be the Tazmanian Devil out there. This kid has all the ability and the right mindset .... now it's just a matter of time.

That Pats OL is sooo coordinated in picking up stunts and handing off.
I hate that they're so good and can't take away from the Rookie QB that let it go quickly.

Philips will be fine against other OL groups. He got home a few times. Just a tad late.
so you mean he didn't get home

23 Reps is actually pretty impressive for his build. Long arm guys don't put up the numbers as the stout guys. Jason Taylor only had like 19 I believe. Bench press does not really show the leverage (fulcrum) strength the taller/longer guys have. Just MHO.

tbf, most of those plays the ball was out before he had a chance to do anything. He should get better but I did see him on the ground a few times.
