From Armando Salguero's Dolphins In Depth blog.

Of course, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano made the case Tuesday that Miami expects to keep Taylor, thus keeping the asking price for the player relatively high.

But based on what I've been told about Taylor's future goals -- which today are to play in 2008 and really, really seriously consider retirement thereafter to enter show business -- it would seem to be a grave mistake to hang on to Taylor.

Yeah, Jason really cares about his teammates, doesn't he? :rolleyes2: Get some value for this guy before it's too late.

Because Armando said so? Please.

Look, I have no problem trading JT for the right value, BUT, I am also OK with keeping him. Look, he has been a fantastic Dolphins for upwards of 10 years. He has earned the right to choose when he hangs them up. Criticizing the guy for that is silly.

Okay, let's just say for arguements sake, that Jason does choose to retire after the 2008 season. How does keeping him on the roster for one more year help the Dolphins going forward? It doesn't. Get what you can, while you can.

i dindt read that link yet but in what u quoted where on earth does it mention JT and JAX interest level? or is it in the link?

He makes your team better today, thats what. Say what you want about us not going anywhere this year, fact is, you just dont know, and we are a better team with JT than without him.

Plus, who says you have to "get" anything for him. We got 12 years of fantastic play. Sounds corny, I know, but since when do you have to trade a franchise player and the face of the team to salvage some value? Im not opposed to dealing him, I just dont get that logic.

tahts a horrible decision or point of view. HORRIBLE. look waht happened with RW. had we traded him maybe we had gotten a pick in which we coudl have had a player here instead of a man w/out a pec loll

Who are you to call a point of view "horrible"? How about this, your example is horrible. When exactly do you believe we should have dealt Ricky? He hasnt been worth a thing in 3 years. He is more valuable to us today than a 7th round pick, or whatever minimal compensation he would have netted us in a recent trade.

Like I said, Im not against the trade, Im just saying we dont HAVE to get something for him, nor should we be angry if he retires next year. He has earned the right to decide his playing future (not in terms of where he is dealt, but in terms of whether he plays or not).

We dont have to but why SHOULDNT we? makes no sense to hurt the future of this team for no reason. get it? its pointless to lose out on talent since this business is a talent acquiring business. no one said he hasnt earned the right i dono hwere u got that from but for all I know he might retire anytime and I'd rather get some sort of a pick then wacth him 1 more year, not win a ring, getting angry/depressed ( as in him), and constantly losing (hopefully not the case). But to say he should stay here and to not get nethin for him isnt a must to me doesnt sound like a good plan, thats all. To each their own so no reason for u to get upset.

If we dont get value, then we shouldnt. To me, value for a guy of JT's caliber is more than a 3rd. I'm talking a high 2nd, or a late 1st. If we dont get that, no, I dont move him for the sake of moving him.

And I "got that" from a poster who was criticizing Armando's belief that JT will play one more season and retire.

And Im not upset, I just dont think any point of view can be deemed 'horrible'. Its an opinion, thats all. Like I said, Im OK with trading Jason, in fact I would support a move that netted us the right draft compensation. I'm just saying I wouldnt trade him for the fun of it, just to get a mid round draft choice. I think he is more valuable to us than that, regardless of whether we are SB contenders are not. Hey, we go 9-7 (hypothetically) and surprise, who knows how his outlook changes? He could play another three or four years for all we know.

I'm sure given the right situation - such as a SB contender, Jason would play even more than 2 more years.

He knows he's not getting to the SB the next 2 years with us .....

I'm gonna go by what I've watch Jason Taylor say after Saban quitting.... He wants to be here and turn things around, he is highly competitive...probably more so than alot of guys on this squad right now. Any team, including the Jags, and either a 3-4 or 4-3 team in the NFL would love to have #99 starting for them on Sundays.

Well put, my thoughts exactly. trade him for a 1st and a 2nd round pick. Let's keep it high. I want JT back in a phins uniform next year.

There have been numerous threads regarding JT and trading him for picks lower than in the first round. A first round pick is expected to come in and be a starter the first year. Even in that 1st round pick case does not always happen but the odds of becoming a starter normally go up the higher the pick is in the draft. Lets face it JT is an high impact starter today and if you were trading him straight up for another veteran you would expect a verteran from another team who would be guarenteed to be a starter on our team. No way are 2nd, 3rd or 4th rounders in the draft considered to be starters in the NFL unless they are drafted as a kicker. So nothing less than a 1st round pick or picks can really even be considered in a trade for JT. In reality it should take both a 1st and a 2nd just to get Taylor and even then there is no way the Dolphins will be sure they are getting fair trade value until after the season if those drafted rookies can make an impact. Barring injury for both JT and the rookies JT is a sure thing!
