Everything seems to be confirming what Can said about C-Pep. On top of the rumor that he might not be ready to play this year (see http://www.finheaven.com/boardvb2/showthread.php?t=204871&highlight=Culpepper

now Jags coach said they weren't negotiating with him. Moreover, he stated that "My gut is it's not going to be a fit for us and for him."

I know he's trying to get a job, but his mails are starting to sound like the words of our former coach a.k.a. Liar Liar.

Daunte could very well be done.
Clayton reported yesterday that the Falcons
were not interested either. Sucks for him.

IMO gerrard would be a better backup for leftwich anyways in terms of value to cap. Gerrard is much more mobile at this point as well

It could also be a play by the Jags to get him to lower his salary demands.

Could be, or Mike Tice knows he would be no help to the team, and or does not want to deal with Culpepper again and convinced Del Rio not to sign him

Culpeppers antics leaving the Vikings and the Dolphins may be biting him in the butt a little but... not only is he damaged goods... he has shown that the thinks above the team...

Daunte needs to spend another year rehabbing.. and 2008 would be good for him with a incentive laden contract

The worst rumor out there is that he's demanding starters wages, which will turn off most teams. At this point in time, pretty much everyone is settled. Not necessarily who the starter will be, but who will be competing for that job in pretty much every camp. Teams don't want to add such an integral part of the team (QB) this late into the planning stages. At this point, most teams want to see what they have moreso than who is available. It's too bad for Cpep. The fact that, as it appears, he will not be able to play right now anyways makes it even worse for him. The problem is that, given his weaknesses as a QB, he's been successful under the right system and coaching. I don't think he's done or that his skills have diminished to the point that he can no longer be an effective QB, but until he can get on the field and practice and play, no one will want to take much of a gamble on him, especially if he's really asking for starters wages...

heres the thing about Cpep that gets me. Think about when he was a starter with the vikes. alright lets now look at his supporting cast, or should i say his stars; Cris Carter, Randy Moss, and i believe he had Robert Smith for a bit, Jake Reed. He had great people around him how knew how to get open on their own and catch balls that weren't "perfect" or even well thrown balls. and he had rbs that made defenses a bit confused at times. Cpeps vital weapon in his arsenal was not his cannon for an arm but rather his legs that allowed him to get out of the pocket and give his recievers time to get open. he also was a threat to run which made defenses weary. His bulk and size was important because he made it difficult for defenders to tackle him and he could get away from the grasp of defenders with his legs or his brute force. Now look at cpep currently, his lost a good bit of weight and doesn't look as bulky as his did with the Vikings. and naturally with anybody the older you get the slower you get and with the destroyed and rebuilt knee he'll never be the same in the running game. So with that threat out the way defenses have to think less about the run and concentrate on the pass. i believe he'll still be able to move effectively in the pocket to buy himself and his recievers some time but i don't see him being as effective as he once was. I believe his sacks, fumbles and interceptions are going to go up because he's going to try and play the way he did when he was with the Vikings. Cpep can't even run right now, thats why he was always on the bike trying to rehab it and he's still rehabing it. remember when he first came to miami and he was doing his rehab in a parking lot and not with the doctors that the vikings were telling him to go? see cpep is lazy and he never really could read defenses because the thing about him is that he plays sandlot type football (basically just stay on your feet until you find the ope person). Cpep should just continue to rehab and find himself a real agent to take the burden off his back so he can concentrate on getting himself to 100%, but he won't do that i believe. Anyone who signs cpep is taking a risk. People always told me Saban was a great evaluator of talent, but i never saw that in him. the cpep brees fiasco is a prime example. Football should just be secondary in Cpep's mind and his knee the first thing because once thats he's healthy he can play again. I don't think Cpep will play this year, just can't see it happening.

This must be a real slap in the face to Daunte. Here you are at Dolphins camp, the Dolphins are trying to trade you for you can have a job at another team, you file a flipping grievance after crying to the NFLPA, and the grievance holds out longer than it should have, the teams that we're interested in you got tired of waiting, and now they have moved on and had second thoughts and don't need you anymore.

Way to go Agent Culpepper! You sure know how to score big!

Can you even really call it a "Culpepper hunt". The only team that was remotely interested was Jags. Cant really be a "hunt" if only one team is involved. Now that no teams are involved its more like, "Culpepper Sunk"

I agree, he should have been cooperative with a trade and stayed under a contract of some sort. After the Vick thing happened i really thought Atlanta would take a look at him. Im pretty surprised they didnt.

I feel bad for Daunte, living in Orlando theres a lot of local supporters here. He was a god in Orlando when he played for UCF. I just hope he can find something.
