BAILEY FLYING UNDER RADAR IN MIAMI?
There's a difference of opinion in league circles regarding the question of whether Jags personnel exec Charles Bailey is a legitimate candidate for the newly-created G.M. position in Miami.
Some league insiders believe (and/or have heard) that owner Wayne Huizenga considers Bailey to be on the short list for the gig. Others believe that Bailey isn't a serious contender, and that the job still will go either to Bills assistant G.M. Tom Modrak or to former Saints G.M. Randy Mueller.
Still, word is that the league subtly is lobbying for increased opportunities for minority candidates as to key front-office positions. Though the minority hiring guidelines apply only to head-coaching vacancies, the league knows that one of the keys to populating the sidelines with a greater number of black coaches is to populate the front offices with a greater number of black executives who'll have influence over the selection of a head coach.
